We are going to conquer Europe says Nicolas Sarkozy

Portrait of a President, Craving Power, Enthralls France
Frances number one playright, Yasmina Reza, has just published a book about France's new president, Nicolas Sarkozy based on her unprecedented access to him during his recent presidential election campaign. Her book to be officially released today is already a sensation in France. Her portrayal of Sarkozy reportedly fascinating and not entirely complimentary. She focuses on what appears to her to be his obsessive hunger for power and some of his personal quirks such as his rapid eating habits, his short fuse and his habit of calling both enemies and friends "unprintable vulgarities." Here's a link to Elaine Sciolino's article on the new book in today's 8-24-07 NYTimes http://www.nytimes.com/2007/08/24/world/europe/24france.html?_r=1&ref=world&oref=slogin

He has a very low approval rating right now. The French disapprove of everything so I'm not sure it means anything. I was with a group of American expats this afternoon and all of them had only heard negative things from their French friends. No one likes him, he has bitten off more than he can chew, from the looks of his size, that isn't much.

I have a couple of friends from France staying with me now, and when I asked them what they thought of Sarkozy, they said that they didn't want to talk about him, that they were on vacation! So many in France apparently are already sick of him and his constant thirst for attention.
