Dessay was born in Lyon, France, in 1965. Multi-talented, she set out to be a ballet dancer, then an actress and finally settled into her career as a coloratura soprano. So rarely do we hear such a pure voice, her rendition of La Traviata is one of the best I have ever heard.

Her voice is amazing and she is beautiful. Definitely not the stereotypical "fat lady" opera singer. The singing is great I just wish that I could understand it.
