The current issue of the Southern Poverty Law Center's "Intelligence Report" provides a useful inventory of current American racists, nativists, anti-tax protests, militias and assorted other extremist whack jobs.
Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Lou Dobbs and Joe Wilson head the list. Dobbs called President Obama a racist. Congressman Joe Wilson called the president a liar. Limbaugh blamed Obama for an attack by black kids on white kids saying it was par for the course in "Obama's America."Former Republican congressman Joe Scarborough and columnist Tom Friedman warned that using such poisonous language could lead to deadly consequences.
In November, Bill Sparkman, a federal census taker, was found hanging naked with "Fed" scrawled across his chest. [Note, The Kentucky state police have concluded that Sparkman's death was a suicide, staged to look like a hate crime so that his insurance policies would pay death benefits to his beneficiaries. Apparently he had discussed suicide several times before his death.] Mark Potok, the publication's editor pointed out that the last time the political scene seemed this overcharged was in 1995 when years of anti-government rhetoric, (not unlike now found in some quarters on HubPages) culminated in the Oklahoma City bombing by anti-government extremists causing the death of 168 government workers.

John Joe Gray will soon mark the tenth anniversary of his heavily armed standoff with law enforcement in the hills of East Texas.
James Edward McCrink of Las Vegas quietly funds groups like the holocaust-denying Institute for Historical Review and the racist New Century Foundation. McCrink's Do Right Foundation once even backed a group led by a former principal of the American Nazi Party.
Abdulhakim Mujahid Muhammad (a.k.a. Carlos Bledsoe, a U.S. citizen who converted to Islam as a teenager), a 23-year-old opened fire outside a military center in Little Rock. Muhammad fired 30 rounds from a Russian-made SKS assault rifle from inside his vehicle on June 1, 2009, killing one soldier and seriously wounding another. Muhammad told the AP the killing was justified because the U.S. military has targeted Muslims in the Middle East. (Sound familiar?)

Brian Kilmeade, Fox and Friends, Co-host--"The Swedes have pure genes, because they marry other Swedes...Finns marry other Finns, so they have a pure society. In America, we...keep marrying other species and other ethnics."
Anonymous comment posted July 15 on Domelights.com, a Philadelphis police officers' website about 60 mostly black children with advance reservations turned away from a private swimming pool--"Maybe the people who work for a living didn't want to swim with a bunch of ghetto monkey faces."
Pat Buchanan, MSNBC political commentator--"This has been a country built mostly by white folks." July 16 MSNBC's "The Rachel Maddow Show."
Justin Barrett, Boston police officer, suspended after saying "If I was the officer he verbally assaulted like a bannana-eating jungle monkey, I would have sprayed him in the face with [pepper spray]."
Glenn Beck, Fox News Host--on July 28 edition of Fox and Friends "This president has exposed himself as a guy, over and over again, who has a deep-seated hatred for white people or the white culture."
HATE CRIMES
DOJ Probes 'Discriminatory Policing' in Suffolk County, New York, protests of SCPD's handling of crimes reported by Latinos. The police allegedly fail to investigate crimes against Latinos and discourages victims from seeking assistance.
In Lynn, Massachusetts, six boys, age 11 to 14 were charged in September with severely beating a Guatemalan immigrant with bricks, bottles and rocks as he slept near the railroad tracks.
In Staten, Island, N.Y., three men beat a Latino immigrant with a baseball bat, splitting his head open.
In Huntington Beach, California, four white supremacist gang members were indicted for attempted murder after they allegedly stabbed, punched and kicked a Mexican immigrant in a predominantly Latino neighborhood where they "went hunting for a non-white" on July 3. A day later, a 45-year-old Latina working as a custodian in a gated community in Ladera Ranch, CA, ws stabbed and robbed by two men who yelled racial epithets."They told me I wasn't worth anything. They said they didn't like me and they didn't like Mexicans," Maria Guadarrama told the Orange County Register. One of the men reportedly had a swastika tattooed on his shoulder.
Dennis and Daniel Mahon, who have long histories in the white supremacist movement--were
arrested June 25 in a raid of their home in Davis Junction, ILL, which
yielded assault rifles, bulletproof vests, two improvised explosive
devices and a large assortment of white supremacist literature and other
racist paraphernalia. Dennis was taped in the squad car after his
arrest saying that if the authorities had arrived at 3a.m. instead of 6
a.m. they would have needed body bags. "We should have had a shootout."
Daniel reportedly agreed.The brothers are accused of constructing an
mailing a mail bomb which blew up and injured the hands of a black
official in Scottsdale, AZ.
Tom Metzger, former Klan leader and White Aryan Resistance (WAR) in which the Mahon brothers were active was also raided but not arrested. The Mahon brothers' indictment accuses them of carrying out the mail bombing to "promote racial discord," on behalf of Metzger's organization.
Robert Joos, long-time white supremacist organizer, was also raided on the same day and is being held on federal weapons charges including one for being a felon in possession of firearms. Joos's property in McDonald county Missouri has long been used for training underground white supremacists.
RACIST SKINHEADS
Michael John Parrish, white supremacist prison guard, in Effort, Pennsylvania, has been charged with the shooting murder of his girlfriend an her 18-month-old daughter in a fit of rage. Parrish is a probationary member of the Vinlander Social Club, a racist skin-head gang with a propensity for violence. Despite a tatoo of the word "HITLER" on his left forearm Parrish was employed by the Monroe County Correctional Facility. A search of Parrish's apartment turned up Nazi memorabilia, several firearms and "Celtic pride" symbols. An acquaintance told police that Parrish began stockpiling ammunition, guns and food after Barack Obama's election. Victoria Adams, the slain woman, was also apparently a part of the white supremacist movement, despite her part Puerto Rican ethnicity.
Conrad Jankowski, 23, fellow racist skin-head was arrested along with Parrish in New Hampshire. Parrish was in possession of a .357 Glock pistol. Jankowski, who has a swastika tattooed on his chest, was charged with "hindering apprehension."
BLACK SEPARATISTS

NATIONAL SOCIALIST MOVEMENT
The NSM meeting in Greensboro was entertained by the skin-head band, Empire Falls, which includes members of the "Old Glory Skinheads." The NSM claimed that 70 members attended the one-day Greensboro converence aimed at expanding the movement. The NSM is the largest neo-Nazi group in the U.S., claiming 70 chapters in 30 states.
EXTREMISM AND THE LAW
Paul Huss, 38, Hammerskin Nation, racist skinhead group member arrested in Endwell, New York. a year after being released from six years in prison for bank robbery and assault. He also belongs to a motorcycle gang The Chosen Few. Nineteen of his associates were arrested in western New York for possession of assault weapons and hand grenades.
Byron O'Neal Willenberg, a member of the racist European Kindred gang was arrested in Multonomah County, Oregon, on multiple counts of rape sodomy and burglary.
Mark Goslyn, member of the Inland Empire Skinheads, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit robbery. He was arrested along with 7 others in a mass sweep in San Bernardino and Riverside, CA of racist skinheads. One arrestee was a woman who tried to induce labor so that her baby would be born on Hitler's birthday, April 20.
Penelope Phelps-Roper, an
arrested member of the Westboro Baptist Church, whose members picket
military funerals, claiming "God is killing soldiers because America is a
"fag enabling" nation. Penelope was arrested for flag desecration by
encouraging her 10-year-old son to stomp on an American flag outside a
veteran's funeral in Bellevue, Nebraska.
Allen Michael Goff, 17, a member of the Creativity Movement, was arrested for shooting a Latino teenager in the knee in an altercation outside a mall in Billings, Montana. Goff had a 9mm pistol and a patch for Montana Front, another white supremacist group.
TAX PROTESTERS
Tax protesters, Elaine Brown, 68, and her husband, Ed Brown, were sentenced to 35 years in prison, October 1, after being convicted of conspiracy and weapons charges. Elaine Brown helped her husband accumulate an arsenal of explosives and weapons including booby traps and .50 caliber sniper rifles after they refused to surrender to serve prison terms for their 2007 convictions for tax-related felonies. They avoided prison for nearly nine months, holed up in their fortified concrete home in Plainfield, NH. They became celebrities in the anti-government "Patriot" and tax-protest movements.
Their arsenal included 22 pipe bombs, gunpowder grenades, dozens of firearms and 50,000 rounds of ammunition.
Robert W. Wilson, in his 80s, philanthropist is giving his $800 million fortune away to many worthy causes and to anti-immigration organization FAIR (Federation for American Immigration Reform). FAIR was founded 30 years ago by John Tanton, patriarch
of the modern nativist movement. It is the most important organization
fueling the backlash against immigration. FAIR stands to benefit from
nearly one million $ from Wilson. FAIR has employed members of white
supremacist groups in key positions and some FAIR board members write
for hate publications. FAIR has promoted racist conspiracy theories
about Mexico's "secret designs on the American Southwest."

WHAT YOU CAN DO
There are many ways that you can promote tolerance and fight hate. Try some of the folowing for starters.
* Speak up when you hear slurs. Let people know that biased speech is unacceptable. Apathy is as dangerous as hate.
* Cross social boundaries. Seek out opportunities to interact with people who are different from you. Eat lunch with someone new.
* Complain to media outlets when they promote stereotypes.
* Look inside yourself for hidden biases. Take a test at www.hidden bias.org
* Encourage your local po9lice force to identify bias-motivated criminal acts as hate crimes

Report spurred probe
The FBI called for a full investigation of the Hutaree in 2008, after a confidential informant infiltrated the group and reported an attack appeared imminent.
The informant, court records show, met with Stone Sr. regularly at a restaurant to address the Hutaree's goals and attended the group's shooting exercises in the woods. The informant said the militia members spoke openly about having explosives and preparing for "the upcoming war."
The informant also admitted to being scared by the "cult-like behavior of the group."
The informant learned Hutaree members had several conspiracy theories, such as:
• The Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and Oklahoma City bombing were orchestrated by the government.
• Hurricane Katrina was caused by Army Rangers who went into New Orleans and set explosives on the levees.

David Stone, the leader of the Hutaree Christian militia in Lenawee County, thought he was trying out a speech on his supporters during a car ride to a national militia meeting in Kentucky on Feb. 6.

One of his traveling companions, identified only as "Other Individual" in a federal transcript of the conversation filed this week in U.S. District Court in Detroit, encouraged Stone to read the speech aloud during the trip.
"Yeah, we got time," the mystery man told Stone. "Yeah, a captive audience."
The unidentified man, who is believed to have been an undercover federal agent who infiltrated the group, even turned down the car radio so everyone could hear the 700-word address.
The U.S. Attorney's Office declined Thursday to say whether the unidentified individual was a federal agent, but Stone's criminal lawyer, William Swor of Detroit, said it is "a reasonable assumption."
During the speech, Stone said Americans were waiting for people like militia members to decide to go to war against the New World Order, a group of international power brokers he said had taken over the U.S. government.
"We outnumber them," Stone said. "They forget, they live in our neighborhoods. They shop at our grocery stores. They eat at our restaurants. We are the ones who control everything in this nation from preparing the food that they eat to running the power stations. ... "
Federal prosecutors played a recording of the speech last week during a detention hearing in Detroit, where a judge ordered Stone, 45, of Clayton and seven other suspected members of the Hutaree detained pending trial.
But prosecutors wouldn't release the recording or a transcript to the news media, saying it would jeopardize Stone's free trial rights.
Yet the transcript was filed in federal court in Detroit on Monday with paperwork from last week's detention hearing in Hammond, Ind., for a ninth suspect: Thomas Piatek, 46, of Whiting, Ind.
Stone never delivered his speech because a Feb. 6 snowstorm forced his group to turn back in Indianapolis.
The nine are charged with seditious conspiracy, attempting to use weapons of mass destruction and possession of a firearm in relation to a crime of violence. The weapons of mass destruction charge is the most serious, carrying a maximum penalty of life in prison.
Swor said Stone had a legal right to express his views: "There is nothing he said that's illegal. U.S. citizens have a right to criticize the government. Wasn't the whole Tea Party movement and health care debate based on 'We can't trust the government?' "
Stone, his wife, Tina Stone, 44, and son Joshua Stone, 21, are appealing their detention without bail. A judge is expected to hear their appeals next week.

There are a few books out there on the subject of mind control as well as Hypnosis,which is used along with shock therapy and sensory deprevation to breakdown the will of those they wish to control.Someone under such control has a split personality,where one personality is totally unaware of the other and can be programed to do things that are against their will.Contrary to what we are told by people ho practice hypnosis ,a persons will can be controlled totally by the hypnotist.
Although,I cannot say that I know that these techniques are being used on members of sny hate groups.There is always the possibility of that being the case.Maybe they really do hate others that much.I would like to give them the benefit of the doubt.

The more hate spewing by Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Lou Dobbs, Joe Wilson and their ilk the more good and honest people who don't know how critical thinking works, are swayed into thinking that these idiots are correct.
I believe the problem is (and who would have ever thought!) that good news men like Walter Cronkite, Huntley & Brinkley etc have set the stage for news. The thinking goes that anything reported as news is fact. How wrong this is in this day and age. What a slur to our former (and legitimate current) news anchors who worked tirelessly to bring us honest, unbiased. news.
Someone should invite Beck, Limbaugh, Dobbs and Wilson to a panel discussion. On the other side would be (pick your favorite) moderates.
What would make this interesting is to have four or five people at internet connected PC's to fact check the discussion. I appreciated the hub. It supports my opinion. I have to add to your comment, "Quite a few of these whackjobs seem to be attracted to HubPages." It's all forms of social media like Twitter, Facebook, etc. They are all an extension and representation of society, just concentrated. We need to continue to speak out against hate and these groups, so that our silent is not confused for acceptance of their dogma. Periodically the History Channel runs program on the history of such groups.

Intro, FYI, I own three guns--two shotguns and a .22 Rifle. I started hunting with my Dad when I was 12 or so. I have nothing against hunting and target guns. The manufacture and sale and ownership of handguns should be strictly regulated. Handguns and long guns with large capacity magazines should be illegal and their manufacture or importation prohibited by law. These weapons are not protected by the Second Amendment.

Should be illegal, should be regulated...why? Handguns are nothing new, the people who wrote the Constitution were familiar with them. The Second doesn't limit the type of arms. It acknowledges the right to bear arms and references the need for militia as an example reason why this right should not be infringed...any anti-gun legislation is an infringement, so we're already a long way from the Constitution.

Handguns were quite different from those now used to create mayhem all over our land. Also, the country was much different. People weren't concentrated in cities. The country was predominantly rural and small towns. And I don't recall that there were any drug wars at the time the Second Amendment was adopted. My understanding is that 2nd Amendment law is not entirely settled and that the latest opinions permit "reasonable" state and city regulation of gun sale, ownership and use. No court has said that the right to stockpile of machine guns, hand grenades and other military weapons is guaranteed by the Second Amendment as much as some of survivalists and other whackjobs wish it were. Your assertion that "any anti-gun legislation is an infringement" is simply not true. Why don't you do a little research on it and get back with us. Most legal opinion considers the National Guard the modern equivalent of the militias mentioned in the Second Amendment.
As I mentioned, the Michigan Militia was rumored to have influenced Timothy McVeigh, the Oklahoma City government office building bomber. [Note: Wikipedia says this is incorrect. That McVeigh was not a member of the Michigan Militia. However, my recollection is that he was involved in some similar radical group or activity. I'll do a little research.] Surely this crazy organization is not what the framers of the Constitution had in mind.

All guns are quite different now. Sorry, any legal opinion against the evident meaning of the Constitution is wrong, even if upheld or tolerated by those in power. Americans have been armed throughout our history and the Founders assumed that a well-armed populace could withstand any attempts at tyranny. I am not against handguns but I do believe they should be controlled. Gunowners are much more likely to kill themselves or someone close to them than they are to defend themselves. As for the woman defending herself from rape - most rapes are committed by acquaintances, not strangers. Kind of complicates the whole self defense angle. Not that I don't believe in self defense and awareness - but a big part of that is threat awareness. Guns are tactically useful only in a very limited range of situations.

This is a red herring. How many women do you know or have heard of who have avoided being raped by pulling a gun out of their purse? Guns are greatly over-rated for self-protection. And they increase the risk of burglary because the opportunity to steal a gun is attractive to many criminals.

mortagestar, I make no pretense of impartiality. I'm not writing for the New York Times or the Wall Street Journal. And, as I noted, I am not the author of the material that is the basis for the Hub. The Hub is based on a recent issue a magazine published by the Southern Poverty Law Center. I summarized the main points of the article and added some photos. That said, most, but not all, of the hate groups in this country are right rather than left wing. Most of the individuals and groups you cited don't qualify as currently active hate groups or purveyors of racial or other hatreds.
I'm all for the anti-tax people. I am utterly ashamed and disgusted that my tax dollars have been sent to Israel, and other parts of the middle east in order to continue with the Zionist/Hegelian Dialectical political machinations toward one world government.
Where are your links Mr. Deeds? Are you cutting and pasting from another web site? If so, you MUST provide links to their material. I don't see any. Also, by what right do you have to use the pictures of these people? I believe the terms and conditions from hubpages states clearly that you must have their permission. What I find so appalling about this hub, is the mis- characterization of white Christian America. The Southern Poverty Law center is a far left-wing de facto hate group against white Christian males. In the wake of the Rodney King hearings, when the White Officers who transferred their case to the white/police heavy Simi Valley (away from San Fernando, where I live...the beating took place just a short way from my home) a local Republican politician called for all "illegal aliens" (as if they aren't people) to be immediately rounded up and deported (as if that was the cause of the problem)....whereas a Democrat (and a woman if I recall) called for not only them to be deported, but also called for the citizenship of their children to be revoked and for them all to be deported.....(again, as if "they" were the problem here)...
And it became a media circus....I remember...I was there...I was the one of six "white" kids in my entire junior high...and I almost got into a lot of trouble at the hands of angry classmates.... I understand the anger...
And I learned the truth about who "hispanics" are, and I've learned who "Muslims" are, or rather, how these words are turned into concoctions and pressed onto groups of people simply because one feels he/she has the right to do so...

While the majority of "Anglos" who came to the "new world" were not elites, they were brought out largely as indentured servants by the elites to whom the land had been granted....
If you read what I wrote in my previous listing you will find that I addressed the fact that the original working/laboring class of "whites" were not elite, but were not racist...that laws had to be created by the elites (who owned the lands) to divide them up... This information is not "cutting edge" research...you are just largely uninformed...either because you like it that way or you just haven't done real research before....and that is something you have to figure out for yourself...

The Southern Poverty Law Center acquired their information directly from the FBI.. I don't think there is any issue of credibility here...accept when reading your words...

My arguments are on a macro level. You keep wanting to push the discussion to a micro level and tell me about this and that instance of hate (always delivered by a white guy). I told you, in as simply layman’s terms as possible, that integration, IMO, does not work. You somehow equate this to hate. Go figure… Integration was created in 1964. What existed before 1964 is a non-integrated political arena and a non integrated economic arena, run entirely by ONE male group: white Christian males. Now you can (and I know you will) conjure up all types of odiousness regarding this plain truth. However, it doesn’t CHANGE the fact. You also cannot change the fact that there were no multi-racial and integrated political systems that existed in 1964 anywhere on planted earth. Indeed, this is a fact that has existed throughout human history. If you want to describe the history of the human race prior to 1964 as ugly, intolerant, Nazi-like, whatever, for not recognizing the necessity to seek out different races so as to diversify and multiculturalize, ok. Be my guest. The historical facts tho are still the same. Ergo, the integration system created in 1964 is an experiment.
What are the consequences of this experiment on a macro level? I don’t want to address the consequences of this experiment, but I do point out the overall statistics concerning the black race, the group that was the impetus for the societal anomaly of forced integration, show across the board failure e.g high school drop out rates, crime rates, incarceration rates, family breakdown, etc. I didn’t make these statistics up. They’re there … and represent undeniable failure. It does NOT matter what incidences of hate the black man faced since 1964 in his efforts to integrate (or any other racial group). What matters is that integration does appear to have failed. Blame the white man, blame the Santa Ana winds, but the statistics are still there and are compelling. This isn’t about racial superiority, elitism, hate, love or pity. It’s about failure of an experiment.
And while I don’t mind friendly barbs, you want to insult. I don’t put up with that kind of bombastic style of discussion. You need much work on your argumentation style. You don’t persuade more than you try to bully people to your corner. Among educated people, this style won’t fly. I recall members from " The Nation Of Islam " stationed at Kaiserslautern Army Facility in Germany. They were VERY vocal of thier hatred towards Jews and others. I approached the military chain of command over this. I was told point blank, " Keep your rank and keep quiet ". That was in the mid 1990's.
I see hatred spewed from CNBC as well against people they disagree with. I was appalled and angered when a segment on MSNBC were mocking Sara Palin's Down Syndrome baby. No class and no soul! I guess that's why those two channels ratings are in the basement!
The Hate Laws are also Cafeteria as pick N choose. Any violent crime is evil and based at least in part of hatred. There are military people hurt and killed by bigotry in America from the far left. Seattle, San Francisco, and Little Rock, we have recently seen innocent members of the military attacked from just being in uniform.

Thanks for your perceptive comment. I'm way past the point about worrying about being PC. When I hear remarks of the type you recounted, I don't ignore them. I take them head on. As a result, a number of acquaintances of mine keep their hate speech to themselves when they are around me.
Ralph - I agree with you 100%. We have hate group members in the military. I occasionally debate them. Its like talking to a doorknob. My concern is the Nation of Islam and The Jewish DFefense League Founded by Meir Kahane, the FBI has listed the JDL as a domestic terrorist organization in the USA. These groups as well as the Arian Nation are active in the D.O.D. and growing.
We also have Black Panthers in the armed services. The inner city street gangas have members joining the Marines & Army to learn urban warfare then intentionally get thrown out of the military. They then teach thier fellow gang members urban tactics. City police are facing this more and more often.
It is an " unwritten " practice NOT to make these members known to the higher chain of command as I found out first hand. The political correct culture has long take over the Department Of Defense. I personally believe we are apst the point of no return. The pendulum has swung far left.

There are extremists on both sides of the political spectrum. You do a poor job of linking Limbaugh, Beck, and Fox News as part of the list of whackos in your article. The truth is that the political left is the real home of extremism on almost every social issue in America. The true hatred spews from the leftist groups, such as NAACP, NOW, radical gay movement, Environmentalists, Unions, and the list goes on and on. They always play the race card, try to pit economic and other groups angainst each other, and show their own bias and prejudices in the process.
The NAACP is not an extremist group. Neither is NOW. I'm not sure what the "radical gay movement" is. Unions and most environmentalist groups are not generally considered extremist organizations. Just curious do you think the voter's rights act is an experiment. Would you support the return of the "literacy tests" that were used to exclude black voters from the polls in the south? (This was proposed by none other than Senator Tancredo at the recent Tea Party Convention in Philadelphia.) Would you support the right of homeowners and real estate agents to refuse to show or sell houses to black people looking for a home in a suburban neighborhood where the schools are better? Would you support Detroit Edison's use of written tests to exclude minorities from common laborer jobs? Would you like to see the country return to the pre-Civil Rights Act days where minorities were excluded from virtually all white collar jobs in major corporations? I doubt very seriously that you would. I've been around a bit longer than you, and I'm intimately familiar with the conditions before and after what you call an "experiment in forced integration."
There were exactly two African-Americans in my freshman class in college and one was a star football player. There was a marked change starting in the late 1960s, and now minorities are represented in significant numbers in most universities.
Perhaps it's a bit of a stretch to lump Limbaugh and Hannity in with the hate groups. Not so much so with Glenn Beck who has promoted the Birthers on his show as well as other far right positions.

When you talk about test to help qualify people for jobs, this is to find the most qualified employee. Any attempt to redefine it as racism is plain nonsense. And, our country most certainly should have some sort of literacy guidelines for voters.

In the wake of Rush Limbaugh being booted from a group of investors bidding to buy the St. Louis Rams football team, a minor media tempest has been stirred by conservative commentators who charge that Limbaugh has been falsely accused of making racist remarks.
Central to their charge are two quotes allegedly made by Limbaugh--in which the radio host supposedly praised slavery and Martin Luther King assassin James Earl Ray--that cannot be documented and may be bogus. Many of the commentators claim that the case against Limbaugh is based on little more than the two dubious quotes.
For instance, Fox News host Bill O'Reilly (10/15/09) claimed that besides one well-documented racist remark Limbaugh made in the 1970s, the case that Limbaugh says racist things is non-existent: "The reason that Limbaugh is not going to be able to buy into the NFL is because a bunch of made-up stuff became legend. And he got hammered." O'Reilly added: "So what we have here are accusations without merit. But in our hypermedia age, that's enough to paint someone as a racist."
Limbaugh defenders, however, have to ignore many well-documented and easily checkable racist and race-baiting remarks made by the talkshow host over a long period of time.

Can A Man Who Has A Problem With People Of Color Be A Color Commentator On 'Monday Night Football'?

Talk radio host Rush Limbaugh may be returning to television. He recently auditioned for a job as color commentator on ABC-TV's "Monday Night Football." The tryout followed weeks of self-promotion by the self-styled "truth detector" to the millions who listen daily to his syndicated radio show on about 600 stations.
Limbaugh's audition is stirring controversy. Sports columnist Thomas Boswell quipped that if Limbaugh joins "Monday Night Football," then baseball's game of the week broadcasters might "team up with John Rocker." Veteran sportswriter Michael Wilbon, who is black, indicated a boycott might result: "If Rush Limbaugh is put in that booth, I will NOT listen to the broadcast," he wrote in a Washington Post Internet chat session. "His views on people like me are well documented. . . . There are tens of thousands, probably hundreds of thousands, who feel the same way I do."
If ABC-TV hires Limbaugh, it's not clear a boycott would materialize. What is clear is that his expressed views on racial matters--from the spiteful to the sophomoric--would make him an odd color commentator. Indeed, CBS Sports dismissed Jimmy "the Greek" Snyder for ignorant racial remarks less derisive than some of Limbaugh's.
A decade ago, after becoming nationally syndicated, Limbaugh mused on the air: "Have you ever noticed how all newspaper composite pictures of wanted criminals resemble Jesse Jackson?" In 1992, on his now-defunct TV show, Limbaugh expressed his ire when director Spike Lee urged that black schoolchildren be given time off from school to see his film "Malcolm X": "Spike, if you're going to do that, let's complete the education experience. You should tell them that they should loot the theater, and then blow it up on their way out."
In a similar vein, here is Limbaugh's mocking take on the National Assn. for the Advancement of Colored People, a group with a 90-year commitment to nonviolence: "The NAACP should have riot rehearsal. They should get a liquor store and practice robberies."
When Carol Moseley-Braun (D-Ill.) was in the U.S. Senate--the first black woman ever elected to that body--Limbaugh would play the "Movin' On Up" theme song from TV's "Jeffersons" when he mentioned her. Limbaugh sometimes still uses mock dialect--substituting "ax" for "ask"--when discussing black leaders.
Such quotes and antics--many compiled by Fairness & Accuracy In Reporting, or FAIR, for our 1995 book--offer a whiff of Limbaugh's racial sensibility. So does his claim that racism in the United States "is fueled primarily by the rantings and ravings" of people like Jesse Jackson. Or his ugly reference two years ago to the father of Madonna's first child, a Latino, as "a gang-member type guy"--although he had no gang background.
In 1994, Limbaugh mocked St. Louis for building a rail line to East St. Louis "where nobody goes." East St. Louis is home to roughly 40,000 residents, 98% of whom are African Americans. One of those 40,000 "nobodies" is NFL linebacker Bryan Cox.
Once, in response to a caller arguing that black people need to be heard, Limbaugh responded: "They are 12% of the population. Who the hell cares?" That's not an unusual response for a talk radio host playing to an audience of "angry white males." It may not play so well among National Football League players, 70% of whom are African American.
Compared to some talk radio hosts, racism is not central to Rush Limbaugh's shtick. There has been, however, a pattern of commentary indicating his willingness to exploit prejudice against blacks to further his on-air arguments.
ABC-TV has the right to hire Limbaugh, even at the risk of alienating members of its audience. ("Monday Night Football" is the second-most watched TV show in black households.) Thrust into the world of pro football where Limbaugh himself would be something of a racial minority, is it possible that he'd rise above his history of racial bigotry and insensitivity? Not likely.
When all is said and done, the athletes are the key players on "Monday Night Football." It would be great to know how they'd feel about a color man who seems to have trouble with people of color.

As for civil rights, voting, housing integration, well rules come and go. What’s right today can be wrong tomorrow. Prior to 1964 white guys didn’t bother black folks in our communities. We could’ve fixed our own problems without white help. Integration we were told was the reason we didn’t have this and that, that that problem exists and so on. All I do know is that every darn problem black folks were complaining about in the 50s and early 60s, and liberals said they were gonna fix with integration, is still here today, aint it? When you say something gonna get better and it don’t you lose your credibility.

Sorry, Pal, you don't know your history. Tune in to NPR and listen to the history of the civil rights revolution. There are still plenty of unsolved problems today, but there has been much progress. When I went to work for GM in 1960 there were exactly zero black salaried employees, not even a secretary despite "The Corporation's longstanding policy of non-discrimination in employment." The company did have such a policy which had been adopted and put in writing to be dusted off on occasion, but the PRACTICE was "blacks need not apply here." All the black employees were janitors and non-skilled assembly plant workers--no toolmakers, electricians, etc. Now there are plenty of black secretaries, accountants, engineers, designers, plant managers as well as several vice presidents.
I don't consider myself "an advocate for you black folks." Most of them are capable of speaking up for themselves. The civil rights revolution was led by Martin Luther King, A. Philip Randolph and Bayard Rustin, but it took a few white folks in the Congress and White House, like JFK and LBJ to get the laws passed. And Malcolm X contributed as well by preaching self-reliance and hard work. He grew up not far from where I live. His contribution to progress for blacks has been underestimated. Before King and company there was Paul Robeson who was certainly capable of speaking forcefully for equal rights, and he did so quite eloquently.

Here’s the thing… Human beings crave structure, from a society down to a family unit. Without structure you got chaos and anarchy. It’s whether integration can accomplish the structure humans need to function. And in order to conclude success of integration you got to look at the WHOLE picture. You point to blacks being in management positions at GM, as if now my people are finally THERE - we reached our desired position and status in America. Really? Well, I live in Gary Ind. and I can tell you that this place is much worse today than it was back in the 50s when my family first moved here (I'm the youngest of six and the only one who's stuck around here). There are majority blacks on the police force, city council and we have a black mayor (starting with Hatcher in the early 70s). Yet the city is much worse today than in the 50s, particularly with crime and family breakdown. One of the things my dad points out to me about pre and post integration is the attitude the young have toward elders. In the 50s elders got respect. Today, them kids rule the street and adults are down right scared of them. I’m 45 and I don’t dare tell a 16-year old black kid anything. Yeah, ya see, I know my place. Because of this loss of status (ironic how you claim we got “new” status yet among our own people, particularly among young males, we know all too well it ain’t there) that’s why I believe wealthy blacks move out of their communities and into white communities.
Also, look at Detroit. African Americans been running that city since the 70s. I hear - from my aunt who lives there- this year the state of Michigan probably going to be seizing the WHOLE city. I think we got way too dependent on government. Liberals made things sound way too good … and we fell for it, and now we trapped in these big cities. We got almost no black farmers left. You gonna come and feed us when we run out of food? Cuz the government surely gonna run out of money at some point. We need new ideas not the same old thing. You can call people all the nasty names you want Ralph who say LBJ’s Great Society was a myth and don’t work, but it sort of like yelling at an avalanche, aint it?
In some ways Detroit was better off in the 1950s and 1960s before we sacrificed our auto industry on the altar of free trade. It's sure in sad shape now. Nevertheless, I don't think many people would want to turn the clock back to job discrimination against minorities and women, housing discrimination, and discrimination in university admissions.
We've made some progress but the road is a long one.

The Oath Keepers, Another Right Wing Extremist Group
Last night, Bill O'Reilly had Stewart Rhodes, founder of the right-wing extremist group "The Oath Keepers," on his show. Things got a little tense when Rhodes described the group's belief that members of the military need not follow orders they believe to be unconstitutional.
"That's a pretty extreme position," said O'Reilly.
O'Reilly had had Mark Potok of the Southern Poverty Law Center on the show the night before. Potok slammed Oath Keepers, which he said is primarily driven by the fear that the government is going to impose martial law and turn American cities into concentration camps.

Stack was a lone madman, and it would be both glib and inaccurate to call him a card-carrying Tea Partier or a “Tea Party terrorist.” But he did leave behind a manifesto whose frothing anti-government, anti-tax rage overlaps with some of those marching under the Tea Party banner. Had Stack the devastating weaponry and timing to match the death toll of 168 inflicted by Timothy McVeigh on a federal building in Oklahoma in 1995, maybe a few of the congressman’s peers would have cried foul.

Two days before Stack’s suicide mission, The Times published David Barstow’s chilling, months-long investigation of the Tea Party movement. Anti-government sentiments in the U.S. have reached levels so high they could result in another attack like the Oklahoma City bombing, according to a report released Tuesday by an organization that tracks right-wing extremists – and the authors of the report place part of the blame on Lou Dobbs, Glenn Beck, Rep. Michele Bachmann and Sarah Palin.
A host of recent attacks on law enforcement, plots against President Obama, and a shooting at Washington, D.C.'s Holocaust museum are "signs of the times," said Mark Potok, director of the Southern Poverty Law Center, a non-profit group that monitors militias, white supremacists, and other extremist activity. Potok made his comments during a teleconference with reporters to promote the SPLC's latest annual report on hate-group activity.
"We've seen more threats and actual attacks in the past 18 months than we've seen at any given period over the past 15 years," claimed Potok.

Since Mr Obama took office, the rate of threats against the president has increased 400 per cent from the 3,000 a year or so under President George W. Bush, according to Ronald Kessler, author of In the President's Secret Service.
Some threats to Mr Obama, whose Secret Service codename is Renegade, have been publicised, including an alleged plot by white supremacists in Tennessee late last year to rob a gun store, shoot 88 black people, decapitate another 14 and then assassinate the first black president in American history.

Most however, are kept under wraps because the Secret Service fears that revealing details of them would only increase the number of copycat attempts. Although most threats are not credible, each one has to be investigated meticulously.
According to the book, intelligence officials received information that people associated with the Somalia-based Islamist group al-Shabaab might try to disrupt Mr Obama's inauguration in January, when the Secret Service co-ordinated at least 40,000 agents and officers from some 94 police, military and security agencies.
More than a dozen counter-sniper teams were stationed along the inauguration parade route and the criminal records of employees and hotel guests in nearby buildings were scrutinised.
Despite all this, there were glaring loopholes in the security. Kessler describes how more than 100 VIPs and major campaign donors were screened by metal detectors but then walked along a public pavement before boarding "secure" buses and were not checked again.
It could have been relatively simple for an assassin to have mingled with them in order to get close enough to shoot the new president.
After Mr Obama was elected president, his two children Malia, 11, codenamed Radiance, and Sasha, eight, codenamed Rosebud, began receiving Secret Service protection. Mr Obama's wife Michelle is codenamed Renaissance. The Secret Service also started to protect Vice-President Joe Biden's children, grandchildren, and mother.
Instead of bringing in more agents - instantly identifiable because of their bulky suits, worn over bullet-proof jackets, and earpieces - the Secret Service directed agents to work longer hours to cover the extra load and to miss firearms training, physical fitness sessions and tests.
"We have half the number of agents we need, but requests for more agents have fallen on deaf ears at headquarters," a Secret Service agent told Kessler. "Headquarters' mentality has always been, 'You can complete the mission with what you have. You're a U.S.S.S. agent'."
Mr Biden's constant travel, including back to his home state of Delaware-the burden has meant that all agents on his team have ceased training. According to Kessler, however, they fill in forms stating they have "taken and passed all tests, when they have not, creating a dishonest culture".
The Secret Service has increasingly cut corners after it was absorbed by the new Homeland Security Department under Mr Bush. Kessler said that when Mr Biden threw the first pitch at the first Baltimore Orioles game of the 2009 season, the Secret Service did not screen any of the more than 40,000 fans, stunning his agents and the local Secret Service field office.
There ar no doubt extremists on both sides of the political spectrum. During Bush' term there were many Hollywood celebrities who were inciting much hatred toward our president. Rep. Andre Carson (D-Ind.) claimed Saturday that healthcare protesters at the Capitol directed racial epithets at him Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.) as they walked outside.
Carson, a member of the Congressional Black Caucus along with Lewis, told The Hill that protesters called the lawmakers the N-word.
Tea Party protesters held a rally outside the Capitol on Saturday, which included speeches by Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) and actor Jon Voight, and then proceeded into the halls to lobby members at the 11th hour.
Lewis was one of the leaders of the civil rights movement alongside Martin Luther King. Jr.
Asked if racial epithets were yelled at him, Lewis responded, "Yes, but it's OK. I've heard this before in the '60s. A lot of this is just downright hate."
And if that's not disgusting enough, Barney Frank was called a "f****t," today too.

I'm glad you agree these people are lunatics. That's what I've been saying. I agree that the worst of the bunch are in the minority at Tea Parties. However, the leaders seldom seem to try to weed them out or disavow them. If I were running a parade or demonstration I would do my best to ban the hate signs which has not been the policy of the Tea Partiers. And the GOP has been cozying up to these people. Did your hear the jerk yell "baby killer" on the House floor yesterday at a supporter of the reform bill. He did apologize today as he well should have. I haven't seen any hate signs in news reports at gay rights rallies. I went to a gay parade once in DC near DuPont Circle, and I didn't see a single offensive sign. Everybody seemed to me to be having a good time in their outlandish costumes. And there were no comments from the crowd lining the sidewalks.

Road rage, accident centers on Obama bumper sticker

Harry Weisiger is charged with felony reckless endangerment.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A Nashville man says he and his 10-year-old daughter were victims of road rage Thursday afternoon, all because of a political bumper sticker on his car.
Mark Duren told News 2 the incident happened around 4:30p.m., while he was driving on Blair Boulevard, not far from Belmont University.
He said Harry Weisiger gave him the bird and rammed into his vehicle, after noticing an Obama-Biden sticker on his car bumper.
Duren had just picked up his 10-year-old daughter from school and had her in the car with him.
"He pointed at the back of my car," Duren said, "the bumper, flipped me off, one finger salute."
But it didn't end there.
Duren told News 2 that Weisiger honked his horn at him for awhile, as Duren stopped at a stop sign.
Once he started driving again, down Blair Boulevard, towards his home, he said, "I looked in the rear view mirror again, and this same SUV was speeding, flying up behind me, bumped me."
Duren said he applied his brake and the SUV smashed into the back of his car.
He then put his car in park to take care of the accident, but Weisiger started pushing the car using his SUV.
Duren said, "He pushed my car up towards the sidewalk, almost onto the sidewalk."
Police say Harry Weisiger is charged with felony reckless endangerment in the incident.

I'm not familiar with the incident where "union thugs roughed up a black guy at a townhall meeting." I certainly don't approve of anybody roughing up people at public meetings or anywhere else for that matter. If you give me a link, I'll be happy to post information about it on this site. The unions and their members contribute money to many Democratic candidates, and they expect support for legislation which benefits their members--increases in the minimum wage, more effective enforcement of OSHA rules, unemployment compensation extensions, etc. The Democrats and Obama aren't providing much support for the unions' card check recognition proposal as far as I can tell.

The origins of the new Arizona Law is to address the many immigrants who are breaking the immigration laws of our country and entering our country illegally. 1. Illegal immigrants are also getting into this country via Visa or tourists passes and not returning home. Its not just the borders.
2. Every Hispanic in Arizona is NOT an illegal immigrant. So patrolling them to monitor if they are a citizen or not would be violating the rights of the ones who are citizens.
3. It becomes about RACISM when you are focused solely on a particular race to profile.
4. America is not only a nation of laws, but, also a nation of immigrants! I personally have no problem with them being here if they come the right way (legally)! However, if they come the wrong way (illegally), I feel it is not fair to the citizens of this country to have to take on the burden.
5. Its not just illegal immigrants causing a problem. America has always had her share of criminals and a good many of them are AMERICAN.
6. For those illegal immigrants who have been here for a long time and have had children on American soil, I say give them their papers. Since their children are natural born citizens, then why separate the child from the parent. AND as you know, anyone born here, has a right to be here...

There are lots of blacks who hate whites, feminists who hate men, Jews who hate Christians, liberals who hate conservatives, Communists who hate priests, and so on. I get the feeling you are all in favor of hate if it's directed at "haters." At any rate you sound like you would want to take their first amendment rights away. For my part I am grateful there are groups ready to stand up to the government if it gets too big for its britches. A lot of extremists have been set up or entrapped and murdered by the government for the crime of holding extreme views e.g. Randy Weaver's wife or the Branch Davidians. That's hate and murder in its own right, a criminal abuse of the FBI, and thoroughly un-American. These men will be brought to justice one day.
There is no shortage of hatred and prejudice in this country. The groups I've listed in this hub are unique in that they are based solely or primarily on appeals to hatred based on ethnicity, race, ignorance, irrational suspicion of government and the like. Yeah...As a black man from the south I have experienced plenty of racism.I have learned that racism is and forever will be a part of AMERICA. Racism will never die because it is taught. Hate is handed down from generation to generation. These hate groups you have listed are of no real danger to me as a black man. I can see them coming. The most dangerous hate groups are the ones that hide in plain sight. Like IBM who helped finance HITLER when the nazis tried to pull gencide on the jews. It is the secret racist that sit in positions of power like MEL GIBSON a superstar actor worth over 900 million dollars who is as bout as racist as one can get. It is the ultra rich racist who financed the tea-party movement, it is the powerful murdering shark who uses his media empire to spread seeds of hate through out the GLOBE like RUPERT MURDOCH, I bear no ill will towards O'reilly or the other Fox "newscasters" they are merely speaking from a script written by their master. The funny thing is me being black I thought jews did not behave in the fashion that MURDOCH behaves with our past being so similar and everything the whole holocaust/slavery black holocaust thing. But I was wrong. Black people read white-power books and visit white- power sites too. You have to know what these killers is talking about when you are the number one target. It is a shame but the truth of the matter is when the almighty NAZI'S KKK and what ever else These bigots call themselves decides to "Put the boot on their kneck...." Hutaree Trial Starts Monday in Michigan
The FBI called for a full investigation of the Hutaree in 2008, after a confidential informant infiltrated the group and reported an attack appeared imminent.
The informant, court records show, met with Stone Sr. regularly at a restaurant to address the Hutaree's goals and attended the group's shooting exercises in the woods. The informant said the militia members spoke openly about having explosives and preparing for "the upcoming war."
The informant also admitted to being scared by the "cult-like behavior of the group."
The informant learned Hutaree members had several conspiracy theories, such as:
• The Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and Oklahoma City bombing were orchestrated by the government.
• Hurricane Katrina was caused by Army Rangers who went into New Orleans and set explosives on the levees.
• The movie "The Matrix" is based on facts.

Fair question: As you probably know, the result was disappointing for the U.S. Attorneys. Most of the charges were dismissed by Judge Victoria Roberts. Two who pleaded guilty of gun violations will serve terms in jail.
