The Fox host’s stunning two-day tirade against George Soros is a new low on American television. Michelle Goldberg on the roots of his hatred—and the Anti-Defamation League’s response.
Anti-Semitism, like all ideologies, tells a story about the world. It’s a story about almost occult Jewish power, about cabals that manipulate world events for their own gain. In classic anti-Semitic narratives, Jews control both the elites and the masses; they’re responsible for the communist revolution and the speculative excesses of capitalism. Their goal is to undermine society so that they can take over. Through the lens of anti-Semitism, social division, runaway inflation, and moral breakdown all make sense because they all have the same cause. Nazi propaganda called Jews drahtzieher—wire-pullers. They constitute a power above and beyond ordinary government authority. “There is a super-government which is allied to no government, which is free from them all, and yet which has its hand in them all,” Henry Ford wrote in The International Jew.

Sen. Graham takes jab at Glenn Beck: ‘Only in America can you make that much money crying.’
Today at the Washington Ideas Forum sponsored by the Atlantic, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) sharply criticized “talk radio, MoveOn.org, the 24-hour news cycle” for the polarization in politics. He then specifically mentioned Fox News hosts Bill O’Reilly and Glenn Beck:
Can you imagine writing the Constitution — you know, O’Reilly says Ben Franklin’s giving in on something. Can you imagine having to do that in this environment? [Graham said]
Without missing a beat, The Atlantic’s Jeffrey Goldberg next asked for Graham’s thoughts on Glenn Beck.
“Only in America can you make that much money crying,” Graham said.
Graham also claimed that Beck is “not aligned with any party as far as I can tell. He’s aligned with cynicism. And there’s always been a market for cynicism.” Watch it:
In recent weeks, there has been a conservative backlash against Beck. Right-wing radio host Mark Levin has called him “pathetic,” former Bush adviser Peter Wehner has said he’s “harmful to the conservative movement,” Rush Limbaugh characterized his role promoting the 9/12 march as “cheap and disingenuous,” and conservative pundit David Frum has warned conservatives against succumbing to Beck’s “mob rule.”

Hatred, that's all what liberals know and do.
Another Limbaugh character, perhaps? We have a few of them in Europe as well, say things that don't make much sense except to their own followers, then lead them mindlessly down the road to anger and hatred. It used to be the Jews they hated, now it's the Muslims. Tomorrow; who knows?Stinks to be a minority anywhere, I guess!
Oh, and now some of your skinhead idiots are coming to Europe to learn the ways of being terrorists fromthe neo-Nazis who lurk behind the smoke and mirrors of extreme Right wing plotical groups over here. Spain has been deporting them over the past year. Like soccer hooligans, only much worse.
I heard Glenn Beck is really an idiot walking around in an entertainer's outfit! Oh, my gosh! we have unintelligent people telling us what to believe on our TVs? What is the world coming to! Next thing you'll tell me is that FOX News is biased and filled with hatred! Who'd a thunk it?
Saw Michele Malkin (sp?) on the FOX entertainment alleged news show the other day. When she screws up her face in anger she looks quite scary! Maybe we should send her to North Korea and she could scare Little Kim's Slong's Ill into surrendering! Just tell her he supports Barack Obama and she'd be there in a heartbeat!
Catch my new hub, This is the week that was!
Amen! Er, I mean Right On!
Liberals hate everybody who are not liberals and who do not agree with them. I am an immigrant, Ralph you do not talk to me of offensive way. But I know better US history as many liberals do. What "immigrant" has to do with anything? I am US citizen for many, many years.
Liberals came from socialistic Europe I mean ideas. The first word "liberal" was used by French person. Liberals nothing invented new, they just adopted stupid socialism which failed everywhere.
In Spain some "hms" like socialism. But look out it is just only dating period. You did not see real thinks. Communism will be next stage. But liberals, I do not hate you. I love you. That's the difference.
I don't know Glenn Beck well enough to say anything for him, or against him. I just know that people who try to bring the truth (bare truth) are always being damned.
But I know Vladimir for some time. America will be the luckiest country if all immigrants invest and do for it as much as Vladimir Uhri did, believe me. Not many American-born citizens understand situation and care about America as much as he does (or other immigrants like him), not saying about the taxes and services he gave to this country.
Vladimir, you know that Communism will never come. It will be enough to let Socialism marry America and the household will take the consequences. It will be too late, but History tends to repeat itself.... many people don't see this far.
I'd rather not say anything against a new coming system if I want to stay alive and with my family. I remember too fresh the fate of many truly devoted people in the country of my birth.
Whoopee, here comes the Libs.. Wow..
If anyone of you lefties took time to think about it you might realize your freedom to squawk is just as threatened as Glenn Beck and any person who has an opinion.
when you are being told what to say what to think and what to shit, you are not in possession of your life.
Welcome to Democrat sound byte Heaven..
Program sponsors should know what they are sponsoring before they sign on if they don't then they probably are just as liberal as you ...
Welcome to Obama's world of Shadow government and Czars ..
I wish we could all remember we are Americans and we are in this together. It's not liberals versus conservatives versus whatever. We sink or swim together and at this rate, it looks like sinking is winning out.
Vladimir, I love ya baby, but I have a real hard time with labelling people in groups. Sounds too much like a Liberal thing to me, man!
I am neither Liberal nor COnservative because we simply don't look at the world that way in Spain. We are happy, my friend, and we love our government for the most part, love our great health care system and love the fact that we can just be free enough to live our lives without someone telling us how we should think or why someone else different than us is evil, full of hate for us, and so on.
Man, America had better wake up because this is the same thing that precedes a government take-over and drastic change of government. And Vlad, I know my history and yours and a whole lot more quite well. We don't live in "Little USSR" here in Spain, so please get over it and stop confusing the issue. WE ARE NOT THE OLD USSR!
Thanks, my friend, love ya back!
Storytellersrus, a great suggestion! We, the rest of the world, really do not want your country to explode from within, if only because you have so many nukes you could send out against us, but also because we really do look up to you in so many ways.
Great American, glad to know you think you are just that, but if youwere TRULY a great American you would be turning things away from anger and hatred, which youyourself exhibit here, and stop thinking that just because someoneis free to express his or her opinion, that this makes the opinion valid. To use your crude analogy, Opinions are like a@@holes - everybody's got one. Get over yourself, man! You are NOT a great American in the sense of Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, Roosevelt, Reagan, Clinton or any other really great American who did more than just rant against Liberals or Conservatives any other group of fellow citizens.
Can't you people see just how you are ruining your own nation by all this mindless chatter? You guys (Well, most of you, anyway) are really heading down the crapper, and it's all by your own internal hatred, distrust and futile posturing!
Ralph, even though I disagree with you, I enjoy reading your Hubs, and will continue to do so, maybe someday I will understand how the other side thinks. By the way, Glenn is just one people fear, maybe it's because he has a way of exposing the thruth.
Ralph, some say that president had half year to decide about the dog for his children. It is Ok with me. But why hurry and rush to pass the health bill? The same was with package. He said he is for people but he fed pockets of rich and "failures" with our "sweat". He never asked us what to do. Our country is we people.
I am not republican neither democrat and even not libertalien. It is extremely dangerous to have one party rule and rush decided about what they do not know anything about. They are going cut seniors, but fonding abortion. And it is many more. I am working in health care and many do not know what is going on.
Ivan, because you are happy I am very happy for you too. I escaped from Europe almost died, and I am happy too. Did you read my hubs recently?
I will tell you nobody is telling me how to think what to do or believe. But socialists will, sooner or later. It is not visible yet. This is not that Russian were only bad. All will fallow suite, because it is evil.
I do not like somebody else is running our country. But it was predicted and foreseen.
By the way many, many democrats opposing the bill the way it is written. I am working in health care for 40 plus years.
It is socialism run amok that becomes communism and supports dictatorships. I'm not saying President Obama would want that, but it seems socialism is on the agenda. A very big controling federal government and very little responsibility for the individual to control his own life. It is as if the idea is - no one knows how to control his own life, or would do it in a way that does not harm others. It seems everything needs a federal regulation. Every problem needs a federal answer. Everything must be controlled by the federal gov't. And it also seems like everything is coming at lightning speed with not a lot of real dialog going on. These things talked about would fundamentally change every aspect of our lives as Americans. Such monstrous changes at such a fast speed can only spell disaster. I think through the prism of the Christian conservative. It does tend to make me narrow in my feeling about what is right for me. But there are things like I just mentioned that scare a lot of folks and not just conservatives or Christians. Lots of Democrats and Liberals are being cautious as well. I will continue to pray for my president everyday and stand for my values as best I can.
I'm not surprised that Progressive Insurance, a company owned by Soros interests, has pulled out....Larry
Vladimir has hit the nail on the head - he always does when talking about a socialist/communist state. Beck has just as much right to be stupid as anyone else. If you don't like him don't watch him. I've never put any faith in the media anyway. They do have one use though, and that is if you step back and look at their overall agenda it's possible to see what they 'want' people to think rather than just giving the facts and letting people come to their own conclusions. Yeah, yeah, now I'm a conspiracy theorist. Oh well, I guess you can't please everyone.
This one's stirred up the hornets, Ralph! You are correct that most of the vitriol spilled in public these days is coming from the far right. Keep up the good work of speaking out :)
The anger has been spewed for years now from BOTH the left and the right. While Bush was in office there was so much over the top crap coming from protesters against the Bush administration. I'm not saying Bush didn't desserve criticism-he did-but the things people were saying about him were easily comparable to what's being said about Obama.
Look for civil discourse now and we're not going to find it. Things have gone a few steps too far. I'd look at the late Roman Republic to get some idea of what we're in store for in terms of turmoil.
Sorry, Ralph
Not to be rude, and hope you do not get mad at me, so I will try to say this in the most polite way I can., Your involvement with the unions makes me question your stance behind this. The unions has been getting a reputation lately about the bullying and the appearance of paybacks from Obama. So for you to take this stance appears right in line for your background.
I have not listen to Glenn Beck, but since this shows the liberals do not like him, he must be a threat and talking up a good storm. I did get to listen to him last week, and he appeared to make sense on several of his points.
Thanks for showing us that he is threat, and that we may need to start listening and supporting Glen Beck more. Your article may back fire, just a the liberal attacks on Sarah Palin has actually made her stronger and more of a threat. You know the saying, liberals try to destroy everything that is a threat to them. And the attacks just make them stronger.
Sorry, that you guys cannot understand things the way we do. We want less government control in our lives. Big government, especially when it falls into the wrong hands of control is terrible. So we cannot let government control everything. We need balance.
Right now both parties are running amck and are doing detrimental things to our control. We need to straighten these up and get control back to the people. Also, the public needs to straighten up. A honest day's work for a honest day's pay, and vice versa. Quit trying to get things for free. Nothing's free, we have to work for it. And care for those who honestly cannot do the day's work. We have too many people who wants everything for free.
Thanks again.
Keep on Hubbing!
Dear Ralph, Glen Beck does rant I'll admit but watching liberals and the hipocrasy they stand for is almost unbearable. Lets visit a few issues that can be maddening that liberals work their waffling majic on.
Death- won't kill a convicted murderer, will kill a baby.
Health care- they want everybody to have it but nobody to pay for it. We won't even discuss illigals abusing our emergency rooms and running hospitals out of buisness.
Global warming- you want to punish America for being successful, won't bring the same arguement to Russia or China.
Gay Rights- want to grant gays the right to Marry because they have feelings but don't give a dam about the majority opinion or their feelings.
Thats a good sample of the lets give it all away attitude the liberals prefer. Open the borders and give all the illegals everything so they will feel good about themselves. Support the Islama-Nazis and let them destroy Israel, aquire neuclear weapons so they can shoot them at us. Here you want equal rights for minorities and women but when it involves Islam you don't notice the treatment of their women.
C'mon Ralph you can do better than this, if you tried to sell this bag of goods you'd be laughed out of town. You have to see how rediculous these positions are and how it would infuriate even the most even tempered conservative.Peace.
Ralph congratulations , pure hatred spewing !
Fortunately or unfortunately, I do not watch tv, so this is my first and only glimpse of the Glenn Beck show. I have wondered for quite a while now where all this anger is coming from and why the American people do not have political discourse the way they used to. I seen Rush a time or two over the years, of course, and I've seen many clips of Bill O'Reilly, but these people are starting to be stark raving mad! I can now see what has happened to American politics. We are listening to fringe lunatics who spew hatred to the masses. This is scary stuff, Ralph.
Dearest Ralph, Prove it. Good luck. Peace.
I wanted to stop back and read some of the follow up comments, and I have a question: Why is it when a conservative passionately voices a concern it's called ranting, but when the other side does it, it's called a discussion?
Since when did news have anything to do with taking sides for or against political parties, getting into the tank for them? This Beck has a right to his opinion but not to pose on a newschannel as if he was reporting facts. Opinions are not facts, they are opinions.
If anyone did this in Spain they'd be fired. Immediately.
I assume that Glenn Beck can at least produce a valid birth certificate and has not knowingly affiliated himself with terrorists, which is more than we can say for our current president. How's that hope(less) and (diggin4)change working out for ya? Regardless, although I don't agree with you, your articles are entertaining and I enjoy them.
Ralph, Sorry about the union thing. That writing on negotiation with the unions would be very interesting. With that background I am surprised you are a democrat, because the effects the unions have in the democratic party.
writing on union would be very very educational to us all, but watch out, you may be put on their hit list, but then again you may know best about these things and what they can do. Let us know about these things. Write hubs on them and then put it in a book.
By the way, I have to laugh when ever I listen to Rush and he starts on a rant. I think he does it mostly because he knows it drives liberals crazy. He just yanks their chains.
Keep on Hubbing!
Well you said my position wasn't accurate, is that all you got? No proof? You can say anything you choose that don't mean its so! You could at least get together with your liberal budies and come up with something. You know the people that agree with you, the other intellectuals. Its ok we know you all sound alike.
Is that your way of saying you're 'taking your ball and going home'? Just induldge me on one issue and I'll never darken your door again. Why is killing babies ok and killing criminals isn't? Isn't killing, killing? Now thats a major issue that reeks of hypocrasy tell me what I don't understand, please.
Wow. There's this whole other world of liberal vs. conservative...or whatever...on individual hubs. I didn't know...until I followed sneako over here from pgrundy's hub. I'm wondering if he puts the same sort of message on the hubs of all liberals, or addresses all liberals in such a manner because he cannot differentiate between them as people? Just a question. And also, do you think your highly partisan identity politic rants are any substitute for real thought? Do they warrant address or indulgence? Self analysis and analysis of your own thoughts before writing is often a good thing--if, as you stated to me, you'd like to be taken seriously as a writer and by the 'other side.' And obviously, you must...or you wouldn't be all over these well-known liberal hubber's articles.
Ralph--glad to see advertisers are hitting Fox where it counts. Beck is an idiot, that's obvious... My favorite was "the cars for clunkers is an evil conspiracy to take over your computer" debacle. I understand we both have had vitriolic e-mails from a certain hub wingnut. I hope he isn't going around spewing a lot.
The pro-abortion crowd and I believe that falls into the realm of liberal thought. I am going to assume your anti-abortion because of your comment and were done.
Lita there is a horrible undertow in our country that includes morality, military, social, financial and national issues. This undertow smells alot like socialism. Liberals in general seem to blindly defend a position without regaurd for any side but theirs. If you defend a position that is offensive you have to know what you're up against. If liberals take a position against the Bible and its teachings in favor of inclusiveness they will be considered kooks by the right and verbally assaulted. If liberals take a socialistic stand on an issue the same will happen. You both know this so be honest about it.
I visited these Hubs because they sounded interesting and I like social debate. I visit Hope's Hubs because they're bizzare. The gay writters Hubs because that stuff is freaky wierd. I do this because I enjoy it. Its entertaining and most of the time liberal Hubs are so far out there that I think your kidding. I honestly don't see how you got from point 'A' to point 'B'. If you feel so offended by a different opinion screen the comments to your Hubs.
Ralph,
Don't have cable, so I never heard of Glen Beck.
As for the "Racist" label for Obama, I don't think we know enough about him to understand what he stands for and against.
As for some of the comments on this hub, liberals and conservatives are a problem in and of themselves. Neither of them is good for the country. They can't find and work on a common ground and that makes them a problem.
Differences of opinions and attitudes is OK, until you need to have the SS America going in the same direction. To do that, you need everyone to agree on the same direction.
Anything less is an ineffectual Congress and President. Debate and debate but when the debate stops, everyone has to agree.
It is like a jury trial, once the verdict is in, that is the end of it.
The current health care debate is as useless as was the economic bailout debates.
The biggest issue in the US should be the ever increasing size of the government. This is magnitudes of debt to the people, than is the purported Social Security and Medicare debt.
Government workers retiring early and being replaced by a young worker increases instead of decreases the tax burden on the taxpayer.
Why can the government, Federal, State and Local afford to bestow all the benefits and retirement on their workers, when most private companies cannot afford it. Many private non union workers can't get or afford health insurance. They also have to rely on Social Security for their retirement.
Even in the bad times of the last few years, the Federal Government has increased in size, instead of downsizing.
As for health care, private health insurance companies are not run well and they practice medicine without a license by providing what is and is not covered for medical treatment by their insured. This will not be changed any if the Government runs the health insurance coverage.
...
Glenn Beck is over the top on occasion because his fans expect it and the ratings reward him. Once you get by the theatrics he does have some very thought provoking and interesting things to say.
I use to be a Glenn Beck fan when he first started out on CNN but now I refuse to listen to one word this man says. His billboard has even been removed from my city.
Olbermann rants and is just as extreme as Beck. Both shows are hard to watch in my opinion.
Well...GMAC just bailed on Glenn Beck today. His days may be numbered.
Here in Spain, Conservatives, as you would call them, always look backwards to some phantasma of a Golden Age, when women knew their place (in the bed and in the kitchen, my dear!) and the people who didn't like it were put into prison.
The Golden Age they want back are the days of Franco and the Junta, or the age of the Glorious Most Catholic Magesties, you know, when Spain lead the world in the number of slaves owned, the number of converts or death, etc. The time when people were in fact slaves working on feudal estates of the elite, whom God out there wo make sure we peons were well looked after. Yeah, right!
What do Conservatives in America look back to? Maybe we should follow the reasoning of one politicians who was interviewed for Spanish TV. He wants to go back to the original Constitution. Yes, that's what he said. The ORIGINAL Constitution.
Well, didn't you do away with slavery, didn't women's rights, for example, to vote, happen some 120 years after the Constitution was first written? How many other changes would you have to do away with to bring back your Conservative's dream of a Golden Age?
Maybe you could go back to fighting with rifled muskets, too, since that was such a glorious time. Field artillery pulled by horses, if you like. Sweat shops and child labor in the mines. You know, the age when all people were free to starve freely.
I have a perhaps better idea...
Why not conserve that which is important, like forests, lands and old buildings, traditions liie manners and civility, and change for the better that which needs improvement, such as health care and the standard of living of your entire nation? Or is America so cock-sure of it's ascendency and perfection that it, perhaps, needs no improvements? that is what the arrogant Conservative Spanish used to think, too. You know, the lords of the manors?
I am not asking this of you, Ralph, because I know more or less where you stand, but to those who back these talking airheads who somehow think America was socially better off years ago than it is now. Yes, I did recently catch some of Beck on YouTube and in other places. Seems in England they think he's a comic, doing parody. People there are SHOCKED to find out that some of you Americans actually get your "news" and views from this guy!
Ralph, I saw this title with your name under it and laughed out loud! It's so unlike you, but I'm glad you just came out and said it. I'm so sick of the hatred and the constant division over nonsense in this country. The right is only bringing back the culture wars because they have nothing else. They have no ideas, no solutions. Their philosophy, such as it is, is based on 19th century ideas of entitlement and class division. And the far right is getting scarier and more psychotic by the minute--or at least feeling more comfortable about acting that way openly and taking pride in it. It's sickening. I appreciate your candor and willingness to whack the hornets nest. Somebody get a can of Raid.
Liberals! Conservatives! So much Joker material! So little time to use it all!
If America was just a nation of one or both these groups, could it have survived this long? Somehow, I doubt it.
The Conservatives view themselves as the majority. But they like the Dems need the Moderates, or they lose, as they did last time. Dems need the Moderates too, or else they become (once more) a fringe party of loonies. Neither party at the core represents the majority of Americans all the time.
The troouble is, both of these mongrel, junkyard dogs see themselves as pristine, show dogs, yet their fleas make us all itch!
Libeals and Conservatives! Get over yourselves! The world will get along rather nicely without either or both of you!
The Joker has Spoken!
Exactly! Bolshevism! Shame on them! Ha-ha-ha-ha!
BTW: Bolshevic means something akin to "Majority" in Russian.
Delusion is a nice place to be when you can't face facts, BTW.
My first thought is that everybody in here is arguing about the wrong things.
The whole Republican/Democrat thing is a silly argument at best. Both parties have mud on their faces in the best of times and are buried in it in the worst of times.
To support any one party no matter what their bureaucrats are selling is foolishness.
Personally I support the guy that will stay as far out of my personal life as possible. This, unfortunately, doesn't leave me with many options. Democrats with their boots on my neck when it comes to my business/financial life and Republicans with their boots on my neck when it comes to my personal life.
We have a choice between two fascist parties, the military-industrial fascists (Repubs) and the corporatists (Dems).
"Fascist ethics begin ... with the acknowledgment that it is not the individual who confers a meaning upon society, but it is, instead, the existence of a human society which determines the human character of the individual. According to Fascism, a true, a great spiritual life cannot take place unless the State has risen to a position of pre-eminence in the world of man. The curtailment of liberty thus becomes justified at once, and this need of rising the State to its rightful position." [Mario Palmieri, "The Philosophy of Fascism" 1936]
I don't believe any (or at least most) Americans want this. Maybe we should all spend a little more time taking the trash out in our own parties and a little less attacking the others.
I'll never understand why people choose to lay their freedom at the feet of their government when, in all reality, government is just made up of more people. People whose lives revolve around the acquisition of power.
This idea that while each group's dogs are leading the race they should hurry and grant them more powers over their own lives is also ridiculous.
Doesn't anybody realize that the other party will eventually be back in power and able to use those same powers you granted them against your interests?
Why not limit both parties and stay out of each other's hair?
What I find interesting is that even though so many disagree with the way our country is headed, they still find it hard to disagree with Obama's policies. I voted for Bush, but no way agreed with everything. It's ok to disagree, it's not going to make us think you want to retract your vote.
Thanks for the list of people who I know I will never do business with, I am sure there is a looooooooooong list of people ready to take their place, that happens when you are #1 in your time slot! Excuse me Ralph
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
I just had to laugh at the thought of Beck being pulled to accommodate the left, thats a good one Ralph!
Why should he be censored? Because you disagree with what he said? Of course that is the reason and that is why liberals are the Nazi's they whine about! You just can't stand those damn pesky Constitutional rights can you? Let me answer for you using your own words "I didn't say Beck will be pulled although he should be." See Ralph you and your ilk are the Fascists!
Reading the news and analyzing the news are two very different activities. Spouting unfiltered opinion and forming a cogent argument are two vey different activities.
There's a place for Glenn Beck. It's call the Comedy Channel!
Yeah and the Liberals are really good at analyzing the news with the tingling feeling they get when Obama enters the room. Only liberals can get "Man crushes"
I think your hub is spot on Mr. Deeds. Beck annoys the heck out of me!
I'm not sure that Obama is a racist. Beck may be wrong on that front. The answer remains to be seen.
I don't much care for Obama for the fact that he is without a doubt a Marxist. The emerging economic model that he is pushing is the exact definition of fascist corporatism. Before you argue that it's not do a little research as to what that means.
I disagree with the liberal philosophy because I believe that a Marxist economic model does not elevate the disadvantaged but instead drags the more successful down.
I believe that everybody should be entitled to a shot at the American dream. Eliminating that opportunity for everybody is a poor solution to equality for all Americans.
Does that make me a "Reagan Zombie?"
Better than being an Obamabot! When will you be honest about your true intentions Ralph? I have never seen a more uneducated bunch of loons than those who voted for Obama, from the dolts in Harlem who couldn't distinguish McCains platform from Obama's to you fascists who can't stand free speech, well unless you like the speech!
Face it the Public is against Obama, he is sliding downhill faster than the typical obamabots fingers slides into their nose! Your Messiah is a loser!
I completely agree with you as far as the influence of corporations. McCain/Feingold just made this worse too.
The problem that I see currently is the push for a marriage between the state, corporations and unions. That is a Marxist economic model at it's core (google fascist corporatism if you're not sure). That is not a free market solution to the problem. I would encourage everybody to take an objective approach to exploring the subject.
Living in a free society is not easy. It takes a lot of personal drive and self education. I believe that the problems we have lie in our substandard educational system. Both sides are attempting to force feed ideology to students when they should be teaching students how to function properly in an open, free-market society.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending conservatives at all. The intrusion of conservative social policies into our personal lives is just as wrong.
As for Glenn Beck making an argument that Obama is a racist, maybe he is and maybe he isn't. I'm willing to listen objectively to his argument without calling for his head. I'll do the same for liberals calling somebody else a racist. I don't believe that conservatives have the market cornered on racism.
Some of President Obama's associations do throw up red flags for me. Jeremiah Wright would be a prime example. Nothing that man says is at all constructive. He does nothing but damage American race relations.
I'll make my mind up based on Mr. Obama's actions and not his words. I don't think the results are in yet. Like I keep hearing, he's only been the president for 6 months.
So, if Bush hung out in a church full of Skinheads it'd be ok? If it's not then you are a hypocrite. A person can be a racist no matter what color their skin.
Also, you must not have read my entire comment as I didn't say that I thought he was guilty. I said the fact of his association throws a red flag up for me but, in my mind the answer is undetermined.
Maybe hypocrite is too harsh of a word... partisan hack may be a better fit.
misinformation.
Obama has the most liberal voting record as a senator.
view it here
http://www.nationaljournal.com/voteratings/sen/lib
seems most of the informed people you know are uninformed
Ralph you hypocritical joke of a man! You have belittled so many people that you disagree with they are calling you names on other sites! You are a nonthinking boob who blindly follows a racist/socialist/whoknowswhatelsetist! And Obama's wife is ugly!! Free speech, gotta love it!
That's a little harsh A Texan. While Ralph's title for his hub begs for a response, I think a debate trading fact for fact is the best approach.
I gave him facts, he calls people names and then whines because I call him an Obamabot, some people need to be reminded that they are what they hate!
True...
Maybe I'm just a little more long winded in pointing out his hypocracy.
I apologize.
No need to apologize!
I would disagree that "Obama has the most liberal voting record as a senator" only because the people who make such information are usually either very Conservative or want to make it appear that he is. So the criteria they use are self-defined 'Liberalism according to and defined by Conservatives'. Just as Liberals really can't judge fairly what is a Conservative agenda, neither can Conservatives define what is a Liberal agenda. From what I've been reading, a lot of programs Moderates really like are defined by many Conservatives as "Liberal". I'm sure the same in reverse holds true.
I do believe that Obama was also roundly criticized by Republicans as having NO record in the Senate because he served such as short time. But Bernie Sanders, Independent/Socialist has a more liberal record.
That said, many moderates voted for Obama, and that's simply a fact. No presidential candidate from either of the 2 major parties can win without: (a) Moderates and (b) Seniors, or (c) a strong 3rd party candidate who siphons votes fromone or the other major party candidate. (That's how Lincoln won in 1860.) Both parties recognize this and try to separate a candidate or elected official from both of these voting blocks.
So does the support Obama received from Moderates make him a Moderate? That's for all of you to figure out, but it is apparent that his favorability ratings are shifting. Mostly this has to do with the Healthcare debate, and, in my opinion, his lack of leadership to get his ducks in a row. It really seems to have very little to do with pushing an over-all Liberal agenda, whatever that would mean to Americans of all political stripes.
Personally I like Obama better than I liked Bush II, but I liked Bush I well enough because he acted his conscience and held other nations in high regard. He communicated much better with people than his son ever did. He was more popular here in Spain than his son, mostly because of Bush II's involvement in Iraq. Afghanistan we agree with, and we have soldiers over there, but Iraq - all the wrong reasons, most of which now plague Obama.
Anyway, Ralph, I still like you El Guapo!
Ivan, if what you are saying is true then am I not able to distinguish what a Conservative or Liberal agenda is?
My personal politics don't fall completely into either category.
On social issues I fall somewhere in between Libertarian and Liberal.
On fiscal issues I fall somewhere in between Conservative and Libertarian.
Foreign policy mostly Libertarian. The "no foreign entanglements" policy is the best policy. I don't feel that we should have gone into Iraq the second time although I believe that the first was the right thing to do.
As far as government intrusion into a person's life I'm 100% Libertarian.
I can't say as I really like either Bush or Obama.
I don't dislike Ralph myself. I respect a person that is willing to give an opinion and then defend it. I don't have to agree with all of his viewpoints.
I do enjoy a lively debate though.
I like Ralph, he's funny!
Because he is asking questions that MSNBC won't because GE will be rewarded with Government contracts, I do not like corruption, I know it is a mainstay of the Democrat party but at some point you have to denounce it! I didn't like what Bush did and was vocal about that and I will be vocal about the course your messiah is taking this Country! I know you don't want to admit he is a socialist but in your heart you know he is, and if you are half the American Glenn Beck is you will say something about it instead of denying the things occurring in front of your eyes!
As far as him being pathetic, I would say polling and using focus groups to discern what words to use with the American people to get them behind your health care plan is rather pathetic and shows the depths to which this incompetent will sink! Are the opponents doing this also? I bet they are and all the left wing blogs are upset that they figured out the tactic, gotta fight fire with fire!
Really? He has taken control of GM,Financial institutions, and wants government control of health care, but he isn't even liberal? He wants to control what private companies pay CEO's and their employee's and that isn't socialism? He has communists in unelected positions of his administration but he doesn't have socialist/communist leanings?
He may have fooled you but he hasn't fooled anybody who is paying attention!
Gee Ralph, Obama took over GM and the auto workers union has greater control over the means of production because they now own a piece of GM along with Canadian government, are you now going to continue to claim Obama is not a socialist?
"Socialist economics is a broad, and sometimes controversial, term. A normative definition held by many socialists states that all socialist economic theories and arrangements are united by the desire to achieve greater equality and give the workers greater control of the means of production."
I agree with you Ralph. I don't believe that the driving force behind Obama's economic policies are necessarily socialist. Marxist is a better fit.
Their is a finer line between Socialism and Marxism than Socialism and Capitalism so, I can understand where the confusion comes from.
Maybe Marxist is a bad word. Lets call it "Early Italian" if that makes everybody feel better. But it is what it is.
I don't like big government either particularly when more than half our budget goes to supporting a colossal military empire and wars of aggression over control of oil resources. I don't like big government whose decision makers are bought and sold by corporate interests. And I detest big governments that build secret prisons and torture people. I don't like big governments that spy secretly on their own people. And I despise government leaders who break our laws while regarding themselves as protectors of our security.
barranca...sounds like the Obama administration to me....Larry
I completely agree barranca. Except for the part over oil resources of course. If you were making reference to the Second Gulf War and not the first, then I agree with that statement too. The first Gulf War was a just cause.
who is this nearly everyone you speak of Ralph?
Jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesus!
maven101...sad but true. I'm not a fan of democrats or republicans but if I had to choose, democrats would usually win the day because this country has been historically far too individualistic in my opinion. I am for socialism where socialism is rational and for capitalism where capitalism is rational. I would prefer both to be limited, efficient and responsive.
Ralph...Aren't all political agendas pretty much about control, power, and money..?
Each kind of shades the truth and purpose of their professed agendas, but when it comes to crunch time one of the three motivators I mentioned will come into play...
If it were possible I would remove myself from this culture-broke society and live on an island...kind of like Hemingway's " Islands in the Stream "....Larry
barranca, name any part of our government that is limited, efficient and responsive. That is why I believe that socialism is ineffective.
I think our public libraries are quite efficient. In general, medicare is more efficient than private insurance. Public support of highways and repairing them gets the job done. Space exploration has done a pretty good job. Public education has historically been a fairly efficient system of education although admittedly a bit broken now. I think public support for the arts is a reasonable use of funds. I think our great national parks are worthy of public support. I could go on and on.
food stamps. Lunches for poor children in schools. Early childhood education. Community colleges. NEMA before Bush destroyed it for ideological reasons. Social Security. etc. This neat idea that all government is evil and incompetent just doesn't stand up. On the other side where is the vaunted efficiency of our capitalist banking system lately? Efficiency in the name of greed is no virtue.
barranca...First, thank you for becoming my fan, which I shall reciprocate shortly...Regarding individualism, I would much rather make my own decisions for my family rather than being subordinate to a group...Individualism is the very fibre of Americans. As an institution, the soft tyranny of socialism will never stand in America. A rational socialism..? Sounds like an oxymoron to me, but I've been wrong before...Larry
Larry, Have you ever heard of people getting together for community projects? How about the Puritans gathered around a green commons? This society was created both by Individuals and Communities. I don't mind sharing my lawnmower with my new neighbor. I prefer to leave my wireless internet connection open to anyone with a wifi. Socialism is another word for cooperation. Right wingers have stigmatized the word in such a way that it has almost lost its true meaning. Tom.
Tom...Voluntary cooperation is one thing, coerced cooperation is another...Volunteerism is all about individualism...Why should I be required to " cooperate " with someone or some thing that is diametrically the opposite of my moral values..?
I understand that " cooperation " is necessary to sustain a civil society, but at what expense, at what loss of freedom.?...Larry
We coerce cooperation through taxes in the name of fairness because we believe the majority should decide on community projects. Why should you get a free ride on communal highways or an education in a public school just because you want to provide for yourself?
Larry, If you are being coerced into betraying your deep values then you have two options: change majority opinion and the law or protest conscientiously by disobeying the law. Tom
All of these Government programs are in debt how is that efficiency? You can include the FBI,DEA,ATF but none of these agencies turn a profit but instead cost the US Taxpayer, just because the FBI can solve a kidnapping doesn't make them cost efficient!
Tom...Using straw man arguments to validate your points about socialism being superior to individualism falls short of the mark...I have stated that cooperation is necessary in a civil society, if one chooses to benefit from that society...
I have never said that I would want to provide solely for myself, in the context of living in this country...Taxes to me are a necessary provision for sustainable existance in a complex society...however, when those taxes are used to social engineer our culture, I rebel...or when those taxes are used to fund a jar of urine containing the image of Christ, yes, I rebel...( and I am an agnostic )...political correctness and all its adherents sickens me...I am discussing cultural oppression, not fundamental obligations individuals must have to preserve our educational, economic, and other hard-wired systems we all use...Larry
Sorry, Ralph, for going off topic...Larry
You know, Ralph, I've tried watching him, and I admit to being a Fox News addict, but his childish political antics bothered me because what he had to say was important and needed saying, but the way he couches the remarks just bugged me...I'm finding Hannity to be the same almost...his " let not your hearts be troubled "is wearing really thin...Now, the man I do respect and watch consistently is Bill O'Reilly...shows both sides, rails against both parties, and takes on stuff the MSM avoids...Larry
These republicans are becoming as ridiculous as their comments. Stop with the propaganda! Health care needs change! No one has done anything about it until now and most all conservatives want to complain and bitch and moan.. I'm sorry but me having to pay $10,000 for a hospital visit is not acceptable! It's time for change and hope is here for us who beleive!
Glenn Beck may well be a nut case. He may well have some loose screws somewhere up there. However, this week on his show on FOX, he is showing us some serious issues and believe it or not, just blindly listening to people does not make them right. BUT- what if I actually put Beck's scare-tactics based message to the test, and what if, I actually discovered that the things he has been claiming on his program this week, were in fact TRUE?!? THEN what? Well folks, I did just that, and his story (so far) checks out 100%. Am I a fan? Never watched his show until last Friday night, and the guy is sarcastic, (kinda like me) and he can be downright rude in some ways. And darn, when he wants to make a point he don't beat around the bush like some,he will come right out and say what is on his mind WITH A PASSION. But I DID double check the things he talks about: 1) Congress did NOT write the Health Care Bill, a radical organization called "The Apollo Alliance" did. WHo the heck are they? And why are they writing OUR AMERICAN LEGISLATION AND WHAT DOES THAT LEGISLATION HAVE IN STORE FOR YOU AND ME? 2) President Obama has "special advisers" who have currently, or have had in the past, DIRECT TIES to individuals and organizations that are not only radical, but literally COMMUNIST in their philosophical leanings, Jim Jones. Rom Emmanuel. VAN JONES, an ADMITTED communist. (That is on video people- google it.) These people and MANY more are in the White House right now telling our President what to do. 3) It has been standard policy that the FBI have operatives researching, and doing background checks on every person a US President wants in his staff or advisory cabinets. If those background checks failed, those individuals do not get accepted into our White House, seeing as it is the most sensitive office in the United States. There HAVE to be VERY strict precautions taken, or else a Nazi or Communist or Terrorist minded individual could have significant influence and that is UNACCEPTABLE. Yet President Obama, somehow, has barred the FBI from doing their job, as to allow these aforementioned individuals into his service. Communist. Socialist. White House. For the first time in my life, I am truly scared. If you are objective, and don't just BLAST something because you do not like it, but RESEARCH it fully then you will find the truth. AND this is what it is all about, the TRUTH. If you are not willing to set aside your differences and be open minded, then you are just a "blind follower" of what you have been trained, and conditioned, to believe. Me, I want to know the TRUTH, I do NOT care what that is, as long as I know what it is so that I can act accordingly. I am a seeker- and a real seeker of truth does not pick one side or the other, but simply picks the best route, which may be picking one Democrat here, and one Republican there. THAT person is at least honest and looking for the best path available. What path are you on?
Why is it necessary to call people ugly names, when you don't agree with their opinion? I say this in general, as some name calling has been done on both sides of many issues. Name calling is childish.
The concept of fair game is sometimes over rated and over used. Calling a public figure a derogatory name doesn't prove any point to be made about that public figure.
Deeds you are an amazing man, Right bad, Left Good, The problem with your calling all these people racist is you have no proof of anything remotely resembling racism!
However there is a multitude of proof that Barry is, he said his Grandmother was a "typical white person" Whats a typical white person? He sat in a church presided over by a racist, or will you deny Wright is a racist? How can you go to a church for twenty years being preached to about the evil white man and not leave if you are not a racist?
I doubt you will ever answer this post as you have never shown any ability to refute facts! But I will check back later anyway!
DEEDS:
You obviously did not read my comment- I DID do some research and it DID support Glenn Beck's claims that he has been making all week.
My challenge to YOU, is this: Why don't you PROVE your disapproval of Glenn Beck to be JUSTIFIED, by watching the show yourself, and WRITE DOWN his MAIN points, and disprove them then bring that evidence here and show us. Can you do that? Or- are you just going to blow this challenge off, because you are just right and do not have to prove yourself to anyone? Because if that will be the response, stop wasting our time with your UNSUBSTANTIATED OPINIONS. Prove your opinions as I have done- I at least mentioned a way for people to see a video online where Van Jones admits he is communist. So far what you have said is just talk. Come-on man, BRING IT!
now is the time to not be pat of a party or group but just be americans those of us who are older have maybe a different view than some of the younger americans i have been a republican all my life an always voted the ticket but no more , glenn beck for all the bad things you might say is niether, and look back over the years he did not always agree with pres bush and was out spoken against him also. have an open mind and just watch his show with an open mind, all the questions on his show this week are just that but he does make you wonder about all the czars that obama has appointed and not one thing that he has said all week has been disputed by the administratin or the president, like the green czar and his background and beliefs, if you really want to know about healthcare in these others countries go online and read the newspapers in england and cananda you will learn a lot that is what i did i did not just take glenn becks word for it. i went to a tea party myself and i saw no organized groups from the right there i saw just regular moms and dads and grandparents. ty
Then why should we bother airing our opinions at all? Those videos I spoke of are right there on the internet, you can be a pug and ignore it saying "Your post was unintelligible and certainly didn't prove anything about Glenn Beck's rants." But if you are not willing to stand up, LIKE A MAN, and make an actual case for your views, then your opinions are just "unintelligible and don't prove anything."
You have the right to argue your point, that is free speech. But you are not arguing, you are just babbling your opinion without telling anyone why or how. Your opinion is great if you can stand up and argue your points, but if you just make some UNSUBSTANTIATED blunder against a person or idea, then it is just a SMALL opinion. My challenge still stands- are you man enough to accept? Shock me.
Ralph,Pgrundy and the rest of the left just spout what they think and feel, none of it is truth or based in a reality that normal people experience. They follow blindly and are always confused when their party loses power after a short time! At least the "Knuckledraggers" have the balls to criticize Bush when he screwed up! It doesn't take a racist to spot one Ralph, it just takes objectivity and the knowledge that racists come in all colors! You have proven to be a sniveling coward in your objection to rationally proving your case! I have proven you to be a "Pathetic loser!!"
Way to stand up for yourself, you should be proud. I think I will right a Hub showing people like you are nothing but shills for a failed salesman, that would be your Messiah!
Right on! Glen Beck is frightening and what is equally frightening is that he continues to have a show - it's a forum for the extreme right to vent their hate and expound propaganda that reaches millions of people who are uneducated and uniformed on issues. They can only cling to they rhetoric of hate and intellectual challenged agendas. Kartika
kartika...Sort of like " clinging " to their religion, and guns, of Obama notation to San Francisco elites..?
Derrick makes a good point Ralph. Maybe putting some kind of factual foundation under your claims would convince some of the fence sitters to step on your side of the fence.
Are you just ranting or are you attempting to make an argument that Beck is a "pathetic loser"?
Do you really consider Glenn Beck a serious journalist? Did you ever consider that more sophisticated writers such as Ralph might use exaggerations to make a point? If you love Glenn Beck so much carry on, but he really does not make an congent points I can follow.
I'm actually at work when Beck is on the air so unfortunately I don't have the opportunity to make a judgement one way or the other.
I do know though that Beck doesn't claim to be a journalist but rather a commentator.
Ralph hasn't made any effort to explain why Beck is wrong.
I personally believe that conservatives don't have the market cornered on racism. I'll listen to liberals make accusations of racism and base my own opinion on the facts presented. The key point is I need some sort of intelligent factual foundation before I could agree. Ideology doesn't serve as a good foundation for any argument. That's why I asked Ralph if he is ranting or attempting to make an argument.
Speaking of that, I've heard a lot of liberals claim that the people opposing the Democrat version of health care reform are all racists. Take Genine Garafalo for example, Is she a pathetic loser for making unfounded claims of racism?
Calling the title or the body of this hub sophisticated is a bit of a stretch don't you think?
Claiming a "Southern Strategy" seems a bit conspiritorial to me. Also, Republicans, by no means have the market cornered on racism. Both parties do. Republicans can claim home to more white racists to be sure but, Democrats can claim home to a few as well as a few black and brown racists. Racism and hate is racism and hate no matter what ideology or color a person is.
Here's a clip from the Chris Matthews show to take a quick peek at. 45 to 65% of people that oppose the Democrat Health care program are racist?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fRc3CGFbQVw&feature
The obvious point of this interview is to paint opponents as racist rube's. Sorry it's such a long clip, I didn't spend very much time looking.
The problem is not just Beck. The wider picture would be entire news organizations of both political stripes choosing sides in politics then, hurling bombs at each other. Is there such thing as an unbiased news organization anymore?
If you weren't trying to make a convincing argument and it's just your opinion then more power to you. I may at some point watch his show to make up my own mind.
Just as a disclaimer... I don't believe that Obama is a racist either. I'm just disconcerted with some of his relationships. Namely Rev. Wright as far as race issues go.
It would actually be rather nice to be able to have a debate in this country without melanin levels entering into it.
Clarification on the first sentence of my last post.
Claiming a "Southern Strategy" to convert white racists seems a bit conspiritorial to me.
I live in the South (Texas to be precise) and I actually don't meet many racists. Maybe Texas is too South. I don't know. I think that may be a wrongful stereotype to apply to all down here.
Maybe 45 years ago during the civil rights movement it was different but, I wasn't alive yet.
Sorry to keep harping on this. The reason your hub caught my attention is it comes across as blind partisanship. That is what I think is wrong with our political process. Everybody is married to one party or other like it's a favorite football team.
I'll go back to my earlier Janeane Garofalo comment.
Would you label her the same way you would label Glenn Beck? As a pathetic loser?
My point is the fact that Beck called Obama a racist is no reason for people to start calling for his head. If that's the case then advertisers should stop advertising on cable news networks altogether, especially left leaning ones.
Liberals love to use the word racist to chill debate no matter what the issue. They have so diluted the term that you could say they have done damage to the people that are actually fighting a real fight against it.
What about that idiot that was claiming Socialism is the new "N" word? Nobody is calling for the destruction of his livelihood, he's just dismissed as a fool.
You seem to think that racism is a purely Republican phenomenon. I would say that Republicans have marginalized and fight against the racists that claim affiliation within their party. Democrats have made racists and those who would use the race debate for their own personal gain main stream.
Like I said a while back, both parties have mud on their faces in the best of times and are buried in it at the worst of times. The partisan players on both sides would be better served by taking the trash out in their own parties rather than hurling bombs at the other.
Your refusal to answer my question about Janeane Garofalo drives my point home about blind partisanship. If you need some frame of reference about my question then, here you go.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RrhjyKkRHXY&feature
Where are the liberals that are calling for advertisers to withdraw from 24? What about Olberman?
I think you've more than made my point for me Ralph.
I'll go ahead and expand on the trail that I've led you down.
The extreme partisans on BOTH sides of the political spectrum are so blinded by hatred of the other that they are willing to co-opt any cause to ensure the power of their chosen political party.
You do more damage to the causes you claim to support by ignoring any indescretion by those on your political side of the fence while blowing up the indescretions of those on the opposite side.
At first glance by those that don't follow the issues or politics as closely as you or I, you seem to care about the issue. After digging into your motivations it's obvious that your intent is not to stop somebody from making unfounded claims of racism. It's to silence opposition to your political party.
The fringe on both sides are leading the public discourse on almost all the issues in the main stream media and in government. That is why there is such a disconnect in America between the majority of the population and the political process.
The vast majority of Republicans aren't racists just like the vast majority of Democrats aren't Communists. The debate needs to move away from the fringes and blind partisanship, and back to the center and reason if we're going to make any progress at all in this country.
Wow! This is a lively debate. Keep the gloves on and the head gear strapped on. People are going for knock outs!
Ralph,
I have been trying to figure out how to say this for a long time and I may have it. I am trying to say this is a fair and unhurtful manner, but I have to.
I am disappointed in you producing a hub like this. You are a better that to do this. Shame on you.
Why don't you do something constructive and prove, as Derrik brings up, that Beck wrong. When you do this, I will feel better about all this. As Derrick brought up, Beck has asked a lot of questions, and provided some good points and facts. Why isn't anyone answering this or refuting his points? Saying that he is a cry baby, and no listens to him is not good enough. People are listening to him. "We the people" are not very happy right now and want answers, and are searching every where. And "We the people" are speaking up and demanding answers and changes.
This happens over and over. Libs only way to defend is to attack the person, and not the issues. And many times this back fires and makes the people stronger. They have been attacking Rush for over a decade, and he gets stronger. Your guys think Beck is on the rope, but I think he may be getting stronger. They chases Palin out of office, got their wishes, but Palin may be stronger than ever.
Please defend the facts Ralph and not attack the person. I know you are better than this. Yes, he is a recovering alcoholic and has had problems in his life. He sho is without sin, let him cast the first stone.
I have great respect for some of the things I have seen up put up here. Put this hub is not one of them.
Do some hubs on all these Czars that are getting put in place and their life histories. Also, the purposes of the Czars, the legality of them, if these Czars controlling everything does not lead to too much power in the president area, and stripping power from the legislative and judicial departments. These areas would be a good start. I know you are great at doing these kind of things.
Keep on Hubbing!
Ralph Deeds:
I need to clarify something. First of all, Glenn Beck did not start "crying racist". From what I have heard, he made that comment ONE DAMN TIME. Right or wrong, liberals seem to always hear ONE thing their hated opposition says and they go HOG WILD about it. Is calling Obama a racist a big deal? Definitely. But for crying out loud stop EXAGGERATING by making it seem as though the man makes that claim after he wakes up and when he goes to bed every night. The other thing that really irks me is when people start literally discrediting someone based on one claim that they have made or one wrong thing they said or did.
My questions: DID the "Apollo Alliance" write the current bill for the Health Care Reform? HAS Van Jones been affiliated with COMMUNISTS an SOCIALISTS, and has Van Jones ADMITTED on VIDEO that he is COMMUNIST?? IS Jim Jones the New York Chairman for the Weather Underground? And last, why are these people, who have not only been proven to affiliate themselves in these ways but have literally ADMITTED to, why are they SPECIAL ADVISERS to the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES?!? You cannot just wish these facts away because you do not like their ramifications. (I love that word- "ramifications". Makes me sound educated.)
Wow, you are so nice Ralph. This explains alot about you.
All you can do is attack people. You have no logic or capability to defend your actions except attack people. I have been nice and you are being a big jerk cry baby yourself! Wow Ralph!
definition - Dictionary.com
ad hominem - attacking an opponent's character rather than answering his argument.
hmmm... who's making ad hominem comments again?
You may want to scroll back. I didn't attack Obama at all. I actually said that I don't believe that he is a racist. I did say that there are some red flags that have been thrown up for me. His association with Wright and although I didn't mention before, his handling of the Gates controversy would be red flags.
As far as making ad hominem comments about you... I simply pointed out that you are politically blinded to the fact that quite a bit of the unfounded claims of racism come from the liberal side of the political spectrum. You don't seem to have a problem with that. That to me says that you don't care about what he said but rather his political affiliation.
That's a pretty wild eyed caricature of Evangelical Christians and the Republican Party. But discussing that is several Hubs in itself. A similarity of comparisons would be calling all Democrats violent supporters of late term abortions, militant Communists and anti-semites. You shouldn't label the majority of either party by the extremes on the fringes.
It is a debatable subject as to whether President Obama has racist tendencies albiet, the evidence to that effect is flimsy at best. The point I'm trying to make is the rabid partisanship is doing more damage to race relations in this country than anything else. If you can't make the connection in relation to Garofalo's comments then maybe you should spend a little more time looking inward and a little less looking outward.
The fact that liberals have jumped on Beck like starving dogs on raw meat because of this comment while ignoring the "pathetic losers" on their own side is evidence of their hypocrisy. What's good for the goose is not good for the gander? Liberals have long labeled the opposition as 'racist' no matter the evidence. You're doing it yourself.
The blind partisanship on both sides is tearing this country apart at the seams.
1903 and 1925 don't seem too current to me. The definition of Republican and Democrat could be said to be fairly fluid throughout the 20th Century.
I can throw out arbitrary quotes to to make Democrats look evil myself. That doesn't mean the majority follow that logic.
"It is thus necessary that the individual should come to realize that his own ego is of no importance in comparison with the existence of his nation; that the position of the individual ego is conditioned solely by the interests of the nation as a whole ... that above all the unity of a nation's spirit and will are worth far more than the freedom of the spirit and will of an individual. .... This state of mind, which subordinates the interests of the ego to the conservation of the community, is really the first premise for every truly human culture .... we understand only the individual's capacity to make sacrifices for the community, for his fellow man." - Adolph Hitler, 1933
"Comrades! We must abolish the cult of the individual decisively, once and for all." - Nikita Khrushchev , February 25, 1956 20th Congress of the Communist Party
"All our lives we fought against exalting the individual, against the elevation of the single person, and long ago we were over and done with the business of a hero, and here it comes up again: the glorification of one personality. This is not good at all." - Vladimir Lenin, as quoted in "Not by Politics Alone"
"We must stop thinking of the individual and start thinking about what is best for society." -Hillary Clinton, 1993
"We can't be so fixated on our desire to preserve the rights of ordinary Americans ..." - President Bill Clinton, 'USA Today' March 11, 1993: Page 2A
I provided you with a link earlier regarding Garofalo.
I'm making my assumptions on your beliefs based on your responses to my comments.
I apologize for not focusing strictly on Becks accusations of racism but, I believe that there is a larger issue at play that deserves more scrutiny.
Ralphy,
You did the first ad hominem by attacking Glenn Beck. I pointed out this is not a very nice thing, and you should defend you reasons of doing this. You the attacked me. I was very complementary of how good a lot of your hubs were, but this one did not stand with reason, and asked you to defend. You then are constantly attacking without defending.
Glenn Beck has pointed out several points, that no one is answering and a lot of are wondering about. Youtube his show for the last week, or do I need to spoon feed and attach them to this hub I will, but I know from all that you attached to other hubs, you are very capable of finding these yourself.
What do I like. I told you, he brought up info and a lot of things this last week on his shows, and asked you to defend them. I like answers. I want to find the truth. I want freedom and what is best for America. I do not like a President with too much power. And don't bring up Bush, because he may be just as bad. We want answers and the President and other libs/democrats are only calling names here, like you did with Beck and not answering them. I take, if these things cannot be answered, and I cannot find answers myself, so does silence mean it is true?
When see his Czars, his administration and cabinets have been affiliated with communist groups and terrorist groups, I start to wonder about Obama. I want answers, and the democrats/libs are not providing any. I ask you to help, and get called a wacko. This really helps. And just strengthen everything I find from other side.
Just remember about 505 of the population does not agree with you, so that makes them all wackos.
Please, will someone answer Glenn Becks questions and cdggt's questions and quit using insults as defense.
Ralph,
People are coming out of the woodworks to attend those town hall meetings, to add their disapproval in order to have their voice heard. Only a small percentage of them are coming as a result of the Beck show, and an even smaller percentage of those are nut-jobs holding those ridiculous signs. Just because a few people are willing to act irresponsibly does not prove Beck to be a loser, if that were true, I would IMMEDIATELY jump on the BLACK PANTHERS, because they are TOTALLY for Obama, he must be a loser. Right? Or perhaps are those radical representatives of certain individuals just that, radical representatives? And there you go AGAIN, claiming Beck is uttering the claim "Obama is a racist" everywhere he goes. Stop being a liar. Comment on the ONE time he said that, over and over if you must.
I wrote a hub about this one, Ralph. Take a look if you get a chance.
Comparing Obama to Hitler is ignorant. Depending on the person using the phrase, calling his economic policies fascist in nature is not. Wikipedia has a small section on the definition of fascist corporatism if you don't understand the meaning.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corporate_fascism
I don't listen to AM radio so I can't give an educated opinion of Beck or Limbaugh. Ann Coulter on the other hand I find repulsive and have difficulty watching her at all. She's way too venomous and partisan for me. Hannity I agree with sometimes. His opposition to a large invasive government is similar to my own. His defending such Republican programs as the Patriot Act is one of the many reasons I can't call myself conservative. His overly mild criticism of the corporate bailouts under Bush were a bit off-putting.
On the other hand Olberman is nothing more than a liberal version of Hannity. I'd say more extreme though (I imagine that that is just because of my aversion to Liberal solutions to America's problems). He is going to spin the news to cater to a massively liberal audience. Bill Maher is so repulsive that I can't watch him for more than 30 seconds without getting physically sick.
And as for my "red flags" being ridiculous, lets turn the tables on it for a bit.
Lets suppose that Bush had attended a church for many years that was lead by a white pastor that openly preached about the evils of African-Americans. I don't believe that he would have even been nominated as the Republican candidate for president. Republicans would have run from him like he was a leper.
Lets further suppose that Bush publicly stated that Professor Gates acted stupidly in his confrontation with the police without any understanding of the details of the situation. The left would be screaming for his head on a platter.
That's the hypocrisy that I've been talking about. To have no qualms about the left using the term 'racist' as a political bludgeon then to attempt to destroy Beck and his listeners for doing the same is hypocritical. I would rather both sides only use the term when somebody actually is racist instead of just throwing it up against a wall to see if it sticks. As I've already said a couple of times it dilutes the arguments of those who are actually combating it.
Once again Ralph, you are right on! Beck calling Obama a racist is absurd! His mother was white - his grandparents were white and he had loving relationships with them. I think Beck is projecting as well as lying! But as you mentioned, he is not that bright. However,Republicans have been brilliant enlisting the lowest denominator of uneducated southern whites into the fold by fear mongering and focusing on their favorite fringe issues designed to divert them from what causes their real pain - poor health care, low wages, lack of education and opportunity! But instead of joining progressives to fight for the common good, this group aligns itself with the very right wing government that wants to keep them dumbed down and poor!
Everybody has to hate someone right? I've never met him. I don't watch him. But I know that some people like to hate and others don't. No one ever have same opinions.
I guess I don't have any room in my heart to hate Glenn Beck that real estate is all taken up for my intense hatred of Rush Limpballs.
I wonder kartika if you think that monetizing debt to pay for a deficit that is projected to be at least 70% of U. S. GDP within 10 years is going to help the poor.
Inflation is a regressive indirect income tax. If the government programs we have now are breaking the bank, don't you think it would be better to fix that first before adding more?
Is that a fringe issue? Instead of generalizations and bumper sticker slogans try something grounded in fact.
The point that I made, which I'm sure some didn't catch, is that Ralph is attempting to attack a person that attempted to label Obama as racist based on a flimsy argument. While, at the same time he attempts to apply the racist label to the entire Republican Party and all Evangelical Christians. That doesn't strike you as the least bit hypocritical?
Ok DEEDS-
THIS is why people are going to the town hall meetings: They are AGAINST THE CURRENT BILL FOR HEALTH CARE REFORM. It has NOTHING to do with LOBBYISTS, it has NOTHING to do with the GOP. If you actually thing these meetings ALL ACROSS THE FREAKING USA, are STAGED, then you are a closed minded IDIOT.
There MAY be 1 or 2 town hall meetings that have been INFLUENCED by groups like this, AND by people who are FOR the bill as well, but the VAST MAJORITY of people in this country, excluding yourself, have enough common sense to see the dire ramifications of this deadly bill. And they are speaking THEIR minds at these meetings, not using some damn GOP teleprompter. Go live in CUBA for a decade then we'll see what you think of SOCIALISM. Get a clue.
My point is, Glen Beck was entirely out of line with his racist remark. Of course, he has every right to disagree with policies and offer cogent arguments to support his views. But, where he and many others have gone overboard is labeling Obama racist, comparing him and his policies to Nazism, and scaring the people with the threat of socialism - as if a national health care program or public option is like some evil entity being perpetrated by totalitarian governments upon innocent victims. Also, the current financial debacle is a result of years of poor judgment and greed gone wild of prior administrations. I am not letting Democrats off the hook here - they are in the pockets of corps and special interests too!
Ralph, what exactly do you think is holding up the price of oil? It's definitely not demand and, don't tell me speculation because that'a only a small fraction of the problem (which works on a pendulum). The price of oil is so high because of a weak dollar. That's a fact.
I think that next year is when we'll all be fighting back and forth over whose fault the inflation is. You can't run this large of a deficit and flood the market with dollars to the extent we have without inflation being a serious problem. I just don't believe that the government is going to be in a position to pull enough dollars back in to stave it off. To increase spending at a time like this is supremely irresponsible. We are far from out of the woods on this recession yet.
I think very few Black Americans vote GOP because of an effective campaign by the left to label the GOP as racist. Sort of the same type of campaign the right has done to label the left as communist. Neither is true and, neither is constructive to what matters.
The trashing of Sotomayor was extremely mild compared to what Biden and Kennedy did to Clarence Thomas.
And kartika, I agree that we're in this hole because of prior administrations but, I don't see this administration doing anything to make the situation better, quite the opposite.
Would you label Bernanke as one of the best economists? He stated the following:
"Under current law, the federal budget is on an unsustainable path, because federal debt will continue to grow much faster than the economy over the long run."
as quoted in a Congressional Budget Office report here:
The real debate is whether the current proposal for Health Care Reform will decrease spending on health care, whether rationing will happen and whether that rationing is moral. The debate hasn't ended to that effect. I think the American People would do well to dismiss the partisan players and propaganda on BOTH sides and and stick with the facts.
The idea that our elected representatives wanted to push an issue this important through to law in two weeks without allowing open debate is alarming. It makes me wonder what's being hidden from the American People. Why the hurry when the law doesn't take effect until 2013?
As far as oil prices, understanding that is a large part of how I make a living. You're right, long term prices will rise. Over the short term the rise will not be based on demand. We have a growing surplus. Demand is weak. Oil is traded strictly in the dollar globally so, when the value of the dollar falls, oil prices rise. A dollar that is steadily getting weaker is a sure indication of looming inflation. The only way to counteract the effect of flooding the market with new dollars is to pull some of that currency back in. Where are we going to find the money to do that? New bond sales? We're already breaking record after record in Treasury Bond sales. We have to create more dollars just to pay the interest on the bonds we've already sold.
What happens if we have a double dip recession? A lot of economists believe that we're no where near the bottom of the housing crisis.
http://www.housingwire.com/2009/08/06/deutsche-see
We have already broken the bank with our current stimulus. Who's going to continue buying more Treasury's when we are paying the interest on them by devaluing the dollar even further?
China has already warned us about this earlier this year:

Relying on MSNBC for your economic news is the same as relying on FOX for your economic news. The numbers are going to be skewed to support their chosen political affiliations.
Sorry the comment was so long, couldn't figure out how to say it in a short post and to back it up at the same time.
Just an aside here that addresses racism from a different angle - what is going on in New Orleans? Not much in terms of rebuilding--do you think that might be related to the demographic? I mean really! We have a number 3rd world countries within our own country. Meanwhile, we're off trying to spread our superior way of life all over the place while are own are living in tent cities by the millions. It seems more and more middle class (the ones we actually say we care about) are also slipping through the cracks, and our vets are coming back to the best and richest country in the world with the best health care system to live in tent cities and be denied medical care.
I see a big disconnect between the right's rhetoric about the reality of the world and what is!

Ha... tent cities? Where do you live kartika, California? We don't have any of those here in Texas and, there's quite a few veterans here.
Wonder if that has anything to do with a fiscally conservative state government.
Curious, I can't find anything current regarding the tent cities in New Orleans. Maybe you're right, it just doesn't seem to be reported anywhere. By the millions? Why would veterans not get health care?
I'm a Libertarian, you won't get much argument out of me about us spreading liberty elsewhere.
Okay, here you go! Veterans make up one in four homeless people in the United States, though they are only 11% of the general adult population, according to a report to be released Thursday. About 3.5 million US residents (about 1% of the population), including 1.35 million children, have been homeless for a significant period of time. Over 37,000 homeless individuals (including 16,000 children) stay in shelters in New York every night. This information was gathered by the Urban Institute, but actual numbers might be higher(from the Washington Profile). Tent Cities is metaphorical and meant to cover actual tents, makeshift shelters, such as: blankets hanging over doorways, abandoned buildings, and other challenging living arrangements that are forced upon poor people who cannot afford housing. And, I'm certain you will find at least a few people in New Orleans who are still displaced by Hurricane Katrina, say, an estimated 12,000 homeless accounts for 4% of New Orleans' estimated population of 302,000, according to the homeless advocacy group UNITY of Greater New Orleans. The number is nearly double the pre-Katrina homeless count, the group says.
Can you link to the report for me (says the report is to be released Thursday). I'm curious as to what a "significant period of time is" as well as if this study includes American citizens only. Residents seems a broad term.
I live just a couple hours drive from the U. S./Mexico Border and realize that quite a few people that cross our border illegally are homeless for a significant period of time before they can find work. The majority have family here that can provide them shelter so I don't imagine all would be counted as homeless. BTW our insane border policy would shock you with the amount of death, privation and destruction it creates if you saw it first hand.
The number you quote for veterans is shocking as I wasn't aware of that. I have a feeling though that there is something deeper as to why that is, other than just greedy evil Republicans anyway. Seems the majority of the charity work and legislation supporting veterans is initiated and supported by the Conservative end of the spectrum.
I don't doubt your figures about New Orleans homeless. Yet another glaring example of our government's failure to handle any situation without massive waste and bureaucratic ineptitude. Luckily the private sector and charities stepped in to help or it would be much, much worse. Hopefully our president will spare a little of his time to address that situation.
Wow, vague and uninformative. Your editorial doesn't point to one specific instance of anything.
It does mention predatory lending but as I recall, Barney Frank and others on the left were responsible for forcing banks into making loans to those who couldn't afford them. Seems I heard a story or two about ACORN being involved in that mess. All in the name of fairness right? The results don't matter as long as your intentions were good?
That's unfortunate and those people should be prosecuted. That's not the root cause of the subprime crisis.
You should spend some time investigating the regulatory manipulation by Sen. Dodd and Barney Frank. As well as the pressure put on banks to accept these loans by groups like Acorn which at the time our president was heavily involved with. If you would like I'll provide you with plenty of examples to that effect. Democrats were not completely to blame for this though. I'm wondering where the Republican opposition was to all this was at the time.
Here is a nice post that breaks the subprime crisis down into the truth.
I think we've got another pathetic loser for you Ralph
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6m4alvzhOEM
Maybe your next hub could be called "California Democrat Congresswoman Diane Watson is a Pathetic Loser." Whaddya think?
I watched the first video and I disagree with Bachman as far as Palin's qualifications for a VP spot. But I also think one term as a senator and a lifetime as a community organizer for president is no better.
I watched the first minute of the second video and I disagree with her point that CO2 doesn't have an effect on global warming. It does, its simply a scientific fact. Unavoidable. The honest debate is to what it extent it does and whether ALL global warming is created by man-made CO2 emissions and how much of that warming is created by our solar cycle.
The most important debate that we can have is whether or not Cap and Trade will have any significant effect on warming. How much will imposing huge tax burdens on taxpayers effect the environment? Will the Democrat Party allow debate on the issue or will they simply steamroll the American People with another legislative cramdown? Is there a better solution that is less destructive to the American economy? An energy tax is yet another regressive tax on the American People. There seems to be a pattern here.
Didn't bother watching the third.
Don't know much about her but, from what I see in the first two videos I would look for another candidate. If I was in her district I would look for somebody that can step outside of talking points and make a coherent argument.
What was your point?
I won't disagree with you in the least as far as ignorant congressmen/women on both sides. I'm not very familiar with Bachman so I can't intelligently go into detail about her. So, I'll have to take your word for it. But, I don't doubt you a bit.
My biggest gripe is that the partisan players on both sides defend these dolts no matter what they do. In a country with 300 million people it seems to me that we can do better than our current and for that matter previous congresses. If we can't we're in a lot more trouble than I thought.
Ralph, I think that if we set aside our partisan differences, which I believe are more grounded in partisan propaganda than fact, we would agree on more issues than you realize.
Neither one of us want to see anybody discriminated against or oppressed. We both see a problem with the level of poverty in a country this wealthy. We both have a problem with the substandard educational system in this country. We both have a problem with power concentrated in one small portion of Americans.
Where we disagree is in our trust in the government to correct these problems.
I don't see the government as any better than a large corporation. Rather the opposite since government has the power of coercion to reach its ends. You don't have to do business with any particular corporation. You don't have any choice when it comes to the government.
Just as an aside, I think a lot of people, even a lot of the ones claiming the label, don't understand Libertarianism.
You strike me as a well read, intelligent person.
I would challenge you to take an objective approach to exploring the Libertarian stance. Try adding Cato.org to your reading list.
You may in the long run decide that being a card carrying member of any political party is a mistake. And you may not. But at least you would have a better understanding of where people like me are coming from.
Leave Glenn Beck ALONE
www.defendglenn.com
Well somebody has to speak out against the Communistic ObamaNazis
And Glenn just lost another SEVENTEEN advertisers and all because he discovers things like
COMMUNIST ART AT NBC
sheesh...
Mandrake, I can no longer sit back and allow Communist infiltration, Communist indoctrination, Communist subversion and the international Communist conspiracy to sap and impurify all of our precious bodily fluids.
Nothing.
Kartika:
Ok, just a point to clarify what you said about Glenn Beck, You are correct about him overstepping his boundaries by calling Obama a racist. But- I am AGAINST the Health Care Reform Bill. NOW- I am SICK AND TIRED of people CLAIMING that I am against "Health Care Reform". I am all for it!! We NEED IT DESPERATELY! But the bill in it's current form was NOT WRITTEN BY CONGRESS, therefore I am AGAINST IT. I will not sit by IDLY while CONGRESS passes a bill NOT WRITTEN BY THEM, and NOT EVEN READ AND UNDERSTOOD by them. And the "Public Option" is out of the question. The problem with this current bill, is that it puts Health Care into the hands of the US Government, and THAT IS NOT WHAT OUR GOVERNMENT IS FOR. What we NEED to do, is get together, and EVERYONE hammer out an agreement THAT EVERYONE can accept. Because whether you all like it or not, THE DEMS AND REPS IN AMERICA ARE ABOUT 50/50. Obama did NOT WIN BY A LANDSLIDE. It just looked that way, because after BARELY winning the important states, he got the electoral votes for them and when added up his electorals overwhelmed McCain's. But I am telling you, the Liberals VS Conservatives in America is 50/50. So we NEED to work together instead of fighting and trying to do whatever the heck we want while "OUR SIDE" is in office. Bush has certain laws in place that will take YEARS for the Democratic congress to overturn, and when Obama LOSES the next election he will have laws in place to curb the next administration unless it is Democrat. We are fighting, scheming, and accomplishing nothing important in the mean time. If we do not STOP, and ACCEPT that there are others out there with a different opinion, and WORK TOGETHER NOW, then we will continue to fight for our respective causes. And let me tell you all, the fighting, is escalating. DAMN your opinions, and DAMN my opinions. WE NEED TO STOP, NOW, AND WORK TOGETHER.
OMG... I gotta take off work and get started on my bomb shelter! Need to buy bottled water and spam! ARE YOU KIDDING ME!
Artwork in NYC is proof of an international communist conspiracy? Ralph, you oughta be cheering that crap on. That's not going to do anything but help your side. That almost makes me want to become a Liberal... almost.
Somebody please explain to me that the video on Huf Post was satire taken out of context.
Hey Ralph, the original intent of the Obama Admin was to cram this legislation through in two weeks. How do you have a rational discussion on a 1018 page bill that re-structures 1/6th of our economy in that time frame?
Bi-partisan doesn't mean "agree with everything we say so that we can have some political cover." And, yes, the time frame is true.
CDGGT is right, Ralph that is exactly what the legislation is geared to do. And for the record, "Republicans in congress" are not trying to "destroy" the Obama administration, they know all too well that they can't come nearly that close. They are attempting to set up as many road blocks as they are able, and even then they are quite limited with a Democrat majority. They are not doing this because they are so twisted and evil, they are trying to slow the MASSIVE DAMAGE Obama has produced so far. AGAIN, I have to state, we have accumulated MORE DEBT since Obama took office (And I am talking about Obama and his administration spending record amounts, not Bush) than any other President's administration in history. TODAY we are at a whoring record of well over NINE TRILLION DOLLARS. We only had around 5 MAXIMUM when Obama was elected. Buddy- the FACTS AND RECORDS are on MY side of this argument. You've lost before you started this Hub. Don't force me to drag and copy our current deficit records and fiscal projections on my next post- because if you force me to I will do JUST THAT. I KNOW they are there because I have seen them. If I must I will blow your smug opinions to kingdom come, with the actual FACTS to back up my argument.
Gleen Beck has better ratings than any of your CNN,MSNBC, reporters, and more than some of them put together. He does go to far sometimes, but he also has some legitimate questions. At least he is practicing journalism. He is getting to the stories and trying to find answers to how this President is working. For the left journalism is dead! It is easy to try to discount every opposer to Obama as a right wing nut-job, but not one hub from you on your understanding of this bill or how it will work and why there is nothing to be afraid of, no stories discounting Fox's points of views or answers for their questions. No review of what Beck refers to as "Czars" in Obama's cabinet, and discounting their being communist or racist (admittingly).Do some journalism and prove something, no one watches these shows on CNN and MSNBC because they have no news to report. Taking a couple of Nazi signs and a very intelligent man displaying his right to bear arms is hardly the majority of the conservative movement. It is easier for the Left to discredit everyone as crazy than to actually answer the questions with some opposing journalism.
"Beck's ratings are a reflection on the ignorance of the average Fox News channel watcher. Beck, like Limbaugh and Coulter, is more of an entertainer than a journalist."
Absolutely, though I don't find any of them entertaining either. All three make absurd, controversial statements for shock value, ratings and publicity. What bothers me most is that they don't seem the least bit concerned about the unfounded hate and fear they might well be instilling in some listeners, viewers and readers.
There are some who believe that whatever those 3 say is fact, no matter how outrageous it is. No matter how over the top. Then the parroting begins. (People will deny being parrots yet they're proud to call themselves "Dittoheads". Go figure.)
C'mon, where's the common sense? You don't have to like Obama or agree with any of his plans or ideas. But he's not a Nazi for cryin' out loud! I mean really! A Nazi?
Can't you see that kind of extreme name-calling is why it's hard for you to be taken seriously?
Disagree all you want with Obama, liberals, Democrats or anyone else. That's fine. But use facts -- not obvious distortions -- to calmly make your argument.
Leave the outrageous name-calling, hate speeches and fear-mongering to the radio and TV political shock-jocks. Keep in mind they do it for ratings and financial gain. It's sad that they're willing to use such tactics but at least they have the excuse that they're entertainers.
Listeners, readers and viewers have no such excuse. They need to make their cases by using logic and reasoning, not dramatic exaggerations. Otherwise they risk being labeled "extremists" or "right-wingnuts" and never being taken seriously.
Sara Tonyn:
You want props? Here you go. You are RIGHT, to a good degree about those news shows wanting RATINGS, PUBLICITY and making comments and articles for SHOCK VALUE, and that INCLUDES Fox news. Where your comments fall short, is that while these news organizations have a certain goal based on ratings and the like, they are still presenting stories that are news-worthy. That is why they are called "news". And ALL OF YOU are right when you say that FOX is not "fair and balanced" but STRONGLY CONSERVATIVE, however the difference is that FOX is willing to allow talk hosts with other perspectives, and when the commentators have their shows they interview BOTH Conservatives and Liberals.
That said, there is another point, you said that you are tired of all this bunk you are hearing, and for the most part, your argument is geared to discredit what programs like the Glenn Beck show are claiming, you claim that he and others like him are simply "fear mongers", and you said "What bothers me most is that they don't seem the least bit concerned about the unfounded hate and fear they might well be instilling in some listeners, viewers and readers."
You also complain about the name calling, and all that "Obama Bashing" you keep hearing and you want everyone to STOP unless they can give cold hard FACTS. Is that right?
THE FACTS:
1)The US Government is CORRUPT.
2)Greedy, RICH politicians in office have been quietly passing legislation for DECADES to ensure their continued "service" in office, but not to serve, but to REAP THE MASSIVE REWARDS AND MONEY they are virtually STEALING from the American people.
3)The Health Care Reform BILL was not written by CONGRESS- but by a PRIVATE organization called the Apollo Alliance. A private organization getting LEGISLATION THAT AFFECTS U.S. LAW PASSED BY CONGRESS? And Congressmen have ADMITTED that they have not read that bill, nor do they wish to, they simply "trust" this "organization" to have the American publics' best interests at heart.
4)We have a current national deficit of OVER $9 TRILLION, with another $4 Trillion projected to be spent in the next 10 years because of legislation the Obama Administration is gearing up to push through into law before Obama's term ends.
You are not seriously WORRIED about these issues?? You do not see the possible outcome if we stand by and do nothing? Can you honestly tell me, that knowing these issues exist, and knowing that Van Jones (for 1 example) was a "special adviser" to the President of the United States, Van Jones who is an ADMITTED COMMUNIST, knowing these things does not "INSTILL A HUGE AMOUNT OF FEAR" in you?
For the record, Van Jones has resigned his position as "green jobs special adviser" to the President. But still the Obama Administration refuses to meet with people like Glenn Beck and comment on all these very harsh, very serious accusations aimed at him and the company he keeps, JIM JONES is currently still on the list of advisers to the president, a man who is CO-FOUNDER of the Weather Underground. (The other co-founder, is William AYERS.) I am afraid, VERY AFRAID. The FBI should have STOPPED THESE TERRORISTS FROM EVER ENTERING THE WHITE HOUSE IN THE FIRST PLACE. Instead, those very same men, are literally "Special Advisers to the President of the United States". Yes, BE AFRAID.
Glenn Beck does not call himself a journalist. He has no background in anything but talk-radio, and now, talk-TV. Everything he says is merely opinion, which is worthless on any news program. That is why CNN/HN dumped him. He makes his point by not researching his statements, by not following any code of journalistic ethics and by not worrying about the effects his opinions have on either the nation or the people watching him.
To say he is alone in this would be folly. People on both extremes of our political system do the same thing. FOX does represent the Right and Conservatism, is neither fair nor balanced, and always comes to the same conclusions. In this they are mimicked by MSNBC, which favors the Left.
If you want real news, I'm afraid you have to look very carefully as non-political sources, entities with no axe to grind or no cause to celebrate. PBS comes to mind.
One more thing about FOX: They damned IMUS when he worked for MSNBC. Now they've hired him. Strange, me thinks.
Derrik, government has been corrupt for a very long time. Yet it seems that to some people it was only corrupt under Bush, and to others only under Obama. Even under Reagan, Johnson, Kennedy, Eisenhower, Nixon, Carter, Ford & Bush Sr. it was corrupt. That is why in his wisdom Eisenhower warned us about it. There were many people on the Right who condemned him as a Communist for saying that. Now the Right seems to champion the idea of the government as corrupt.
Some of the closest people to Bush were also corrupt and of dubious political sentiments. You fear that Obama's people are Communist. Others worried that Bush's people were Fascist. Maybe both ideas are right. Maybe we need better candidates to run for these offices.
Maybe we need a way to cleanse the entire system and make it work. But looking back at the history of our nation, the government, meaning those we elect, never worked very well. Why should we expect it to now?
If Glenn Beck is such a psycho-rightwing-nut-job why did so said Beck czar "Van Jones" of the green jobs intitiative resign from Obama's cabinet? This is a President who said if you want to know me look at who is around me. And again how do we pay for these agendas? How does it work (health care)? How much will it raise taxes and national debt?
Left:Answer these questions and the right will probably be quiet, cover them up with more questions and sctrutiny and the right will only become louder.
Derrick --
Thanks for the props.
I have no problem with calling any story "news". I only have a problem when the details of the story are selective, exaggerated or taken out of context. Beck, Limbaugh and Coulter do all those things on a regular basis to create controversy -- which in turn boosts ratings. That's their shtick. Certainly there are some on the left who do it too. But IMO Beck, Limbaugh and Coulter are the worst offenders. Not because they're conservatives/on the right. I feel they're the worst offenders because they knowingly and intentionally stir up so much hate (especially Coulter) and fear (especially Beck and Limbaugh). Those are the two most dangerous human emotions to toy with -- and yet they exploit them without any apparent shame.
Look at how quickly and deeply the country divides in anger because of what those three "entertainers" say. (I don't care what they call themselves; "entertainers" is the best I can do for them.) Nothing that Obama, Bush, Nader, Paul, you and I put together could result in the panicky, dangerous over-reactions that are the staple results of Beck's, Limbaugh's and Coulter's yammerings.
I don't have any problem with FOX News being very conservative. That's fine. I only take issue with them calling themselves "fair and balanced" when they obviously aren't. It's an insult to the viewers' intelligence to make that claim. I mean even many conservatives themselves acknowledge that the station leans heavily to the right.
As for FOX interviewing both people on both sides of an issue, yes, they do. Albeit they pick their interviewees with care. But so do CNN, CNBC, NPR, MSNBC, etc.
I don't think THE FACTS you listed are quite as cut and dried as you presented, but it's not worth nitpicking the differences. That said, sure, I'm concerned about those things. People on BOTH sides are. All I ask is that discussions about those issues not be presented in such a way as to make it seem as if only liberals are to blame for them. Corruption and greed are plentiful on both sides, and the health care system is a concern for both sides. The deficit/debt issues started long before Obama took office yet that FACT seems to be totally ignored or minimized. Getting out of the mess the country is in is going to cost money; lots and lots of it. There's no way around it. But screaming and yelling about it in a manner that makes everything seem hopeless and dangerous -- which is exactly what Beck and Limbaugh do for ratings purposes -- only makes it more difficult for the country to work TOGETHER to solve the problems.
It would take too much time and space here to fully explore and re-re-re-rehash the histories of Van Jones, Jim Jones and Willian Ayers so let me just say that NO I'm not afraid of them. There's no indication they're secretly plotting to take over the country. (Then presumably the world, solar system, galaxy and universe, I guess.) So unless and until they're found to be doing something criminal or threatening NOW, in 2009, I refuse to join the paranoids on the extreme right in their Doomsday scenarios.
If people or things in a person's past are enough to scare and worry the rightwing extremists to death, where was their screaming and hollering and fear when Bush was president?
The Bush family has been tied to the bin Ladens for decades. And Bush's grandfather has a connection to -- brace yourself -- HITLER! Ergo, they all must be terrorists and/or crazed Nazis, right?
In fact, the bin Ladens were actually visiting over at George and Laura's ON 9/11/2001. And Dubya arranged for them to be flown out of the country BEFORE he even addressed the twin towers disaster. Those are FACTS that are well documented.
So according to right-extremist rationale, speculation and guilt-by-association it means Bush and his entire family are terrorists. And they MUST have been part of the 9/11 plan too, right? My God, Bush is practically Osama bin Laden's brother, no? So why wasn't he arrested and executed by now? And why were he and his poppa ever allowed in the White House in the first place?
And why wasn't there a single peep or the least bit of concern coming from Beck, Limbaugh, Coulter or FOX News about any of that?
EGADS! That can only mean Beck, Limbaugh and Coulter are TERRORISTS TOO. (Actually, that description does fit them, IMO.)
And what about CNAP? We haven't even touched on that and the direct connections to Rove, Cheney and Rumsfeld. Where's the rightwing outrage and fear over that world domination saga? Talk about your big government.
My point is simply that so much of the outrageous "entertainment" by people like Beck, Limbaugh and Coulter is based on that kind of selective, illogical and misleading information. And that's what they use to instill such strong hatred and fear and mega-paranoia in "fans" who take whatever those three say as the complete gospel truth.
And that's what I find really scary.
Show some reliable evidence as to that effect Sara. That sounds more like a conspiracy theory than fact. You sound exactly like what you are railing against. Just a left wing version. If what you are saying is true, maybe you should reevaluate your liberal stance since it is obvious that government is corrupt from top to bottom. Bigger government = bigger corruption. Pretending government corruption is all right wing or all left wing is willful blindness.
As for Van Jones - Anybody that labels themselves a 'Communist' after the collapse of the the Soviet Union shouldn't be feared but should be ridiculed as an idiot.
I wouldn't appoint an avowed communist to mow my grass. Van Jones should be cleaning the Slurpee machine out at the local Qwikee Mart not advising the president.
This just goes to show that these Special Advisors or 'Czars' should be vetted by congress. That clown would probably never have been suggested for the post in the first place.
Ralph, that's a silly statement.
I think it's reasonable to ask for reliable evidence on a comment like that. As I've said repetitively, I'm no Republican. If it's true it's true. I wont argue against fact.
But, proving a Republican is stupid does not mean that all Democrats are right when it comes to enlarging the American Government which is loaded with corruption and ineptitude on both sides. If they are so evil, why do you people work so hard at giving them more power? It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.
Rumor, fear and hatred... really? Ralph, you're a walking bumper sticker. I ask for facts and you say that. I didn't even argue with her. Sounds like your applying the stereotypes that apply to you to me. Wouldn't hatred be an apt description for your hub? Couldn't you call random comments unsubstantiated with fact, rumor? Fear of big government, YES! History shows that fear to be a very reasonable one.
Right wing nuts and Left wing nuts are defining the debate. Left wing loons are no better than Right wing ones. Ralph you easily fall into the Left side of that statement since throughout the entire comment section of your hub you do nothing but attack the right and defend the left.
There doesn't seem to be a middle ground for you. Do you not recognize ANY of the lies, propaganda and rumors being spread by the left? I bet you can't even name one. At least you are not willing to.
If you would drop the hate of anybody that disagrees with you and actually read my previous comments objectively you would recognize that I'm nowhere near as biased and blind as you. But, that won't happen. You are 100% owned by a political party. You are no different than a rabid Rush Limbaugh listener. You're just chained to a different ideology.
You are so full of hate that a reasonable conversation is impossible. That being said, I recognize that I'm wasting my time with reason on this hub. I'll save any further opinions and debate for a more reasonable and less wildly partisan environment.
cdggt --
Thanks for the response. Sorry I was so long-winded. LOL
What exactly are you referring to re "reliable evidence"? There's nothing that can't be easily Googled. I just didn't want to rehash old news since my post already read like a book. :)
BTW, I don't need to reevaluate my "liberal stance". That's based on the ideas and principles I agree with. It's not tied to a person. And the size of government doesn't automatically determine how corrupt it is, though I understand your point. The thing is, one person can be more corrupt than 10,000 other people put together. You have to examine each scenario separately.
My point is just that neither side is free from corruption. So if Beck and Limbaugh want to scare their listeners to death and whip them into hate-filled frenzies by making hollow mountains out of abandoned molehills, why don't they rail about Republican conservative "terrorists"?
Rufus and Ellie Mae down in Bugfluck, Texas should be told about ALL them thar evil-doers who'er plannin' to destroy the good ol' US of A and eat their young 'uns not just the ones that don't belong to the Landover Baptist church.
Think about the last paragraph in your comment... Who is the hateful one? The people of this country are more intelligent than that. Even if they have a Southern accent. Comments like that are why people in the south can never side with the left. Bigotry is bigotry. Do you not understand that? You're a bigot.
I guess my opinion of large government is based on statistics and not political affiliation. If one in ten bureaucrats are corrupt then, there are less corrupt bureaucrats in a group of ten than a group of 1000.
I have no illusions that Republicans are less corrupt than Dems. I imagine its about the same. That's why I prefer free market solutions instead of just giving up and granting power to these guys.
As far as evidence: Bush hanging out with the Bin Ladens for one. Was this on Alex Jones's website or is there a reliable source? That's worth investigation if there is and a possible prosecution. I was completely unaware of it. I think Bush was more dangerous to our country than Obama in a lot of ways. I just refuse to believe accusations like that without some sort of factual foundation. I'd be a fool if I did.
This Van Jones thing is different though. The man was part of the Obama Administration. Isn't it the media's responsibility to point out things like that? The man was an avowed communist. That's a defunct ideology if I've ever seen one. After the collapse of the USSR and the information that was made public afterwords how can anybody argue that point?
The first word was "if". It was conjecture, not a reference to an actual statistic. Call it one in one hundred if it makes you more comfortable.
Who do governmental bureaucrats answer to? Who appoints them?
I don't pretend to be a moderate. I've openly called myself a Libertarian.
My point is that you level charges against one party when yours is no better. And, I'm not whining, I'm just pointing out your hypocrisy. I wouldn't expect you to apologize any more than I would expect Rush Limbaugh to apologize.
Where did you call attention to a racist attack on Obama? I can only find where Glenn Beck called Obama a racist. That doesn't make Beck a racist, foolish maybe, but not a racist.
That's great Ralph, I don't disagree that it should be investigated. I would like to see something that isn't an op-ed piece but, that's impossible without an investigation.
Does that make the Liberals any more righteous? No. I don't see that Democrats are really that much different than Republicans. Both of those parties believe that a huge government is a good thing.
cdggt -- C'mon, get a grip.
I'm no bigot. Far from it. Biting satire and parody isn't bigotism. Don't be in such a rush (pardon the pun) to accuse me of something nasty just because you're upset that I brought up information you weren't aware of and don't like.
The fact is, there's paranoia in rightwing extremists. Do you say there isn't? And it's a fact that Bible thumpers are part of the extremist bunch -- or haven't you heard the Christian hate from Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, Pat Buchanan and the many televangelists who blame liberals for all the sins of the world?
Dubya Bush came up with the "evildoers" expression, not me. The accent was supposed to be Texan, like Bush. The comments were merely satire -- making fun of his "evildoers" expression plus the wild paranoia of Texan Bible-thumpers who think every liberal is a soul-less commie bent on destroying "their" (the thumpers') country.
Lighten up, Francis. ;)
Ralph beat me to the Bush-Bin Ladens connection so I won't post anything else about that unless you want me to. But I will say there's a whole lot more to the story -- and it's not good news -- than what's in just that one article and there are plenty of credible sources. There's an excellent book titled "The Cell" that I think you'd be fascinated with. It's about Osama, 9/11 and what the Islamic terrorists really want -- in their own words. (No, it's not the takeover of the US.)
You might also check into Prescott Bush and his financial connection to the Nazi party along with how the Bush family gained wealth and power. Fascinating! You didn't mention wanting evidence of that so I'm assuming you already knew something about it.
My problem with you looking at corruption statistically is that there's no valid premise to begin with. That is, you can't say if 10% on the left are corrupt, 10% of the right must also be corrupt. Those on the right may be 100% corrupt or 100% uncorrupted. Every government, regardless of size or party, has to be examined separately.
IMO, big business is extremely corrupt and it's the single biggest force behind any government. Which reminds me. Do you know about the Bush connection to Goldman Sachs?
Their are extremists at both ends of the spectrum. Unfortunately they are both leading the debate.
Are you saying that Christian's (or Bible thumper's as you call them) are all extremists? You haven't made a very good case that you are not a bigot.
I have no problem with criticisms of Bush. I have plenty of gripes for him myself. Somehow I don't believe that bombing the shit out of somebody is the best way to spread Democracy.
You should lighten up yourself. Not all Christians preach hate. You just choose to focus on the ones that do. I know everybody is taught to pigeonhole people into groups and stereotype them with wild labels marketed by their political affiliations for political expediency. I try to stick to the actions of the individual. Maybe that's why I choose to be Libertarian.
Both sides are trying to impose their will on each other. I say back off and keep your agendas to yourselves. You're not a Christian, that's fine, that's your business. It's not your business if somebody else is. I don't want either side dictating to me. Wrong or right, I prefer to make my own choices.
cdggt --
No, of course not ALL Bible thumpers are rightwing extremists. C'mon, stop looking for a fight, wouldja? In case you haven't noticed, we agree more than disagree on things. And I'm not a bigot. Period.
No, of course not ALL Christians preach hate. Jeez. I focused on Falwell & Co only because the subject of hate came up while talking about Beck, Coulter and Limbaugh, remember? Hate is an obvious common-ground connection between them all.
Personally I don't care if someone is Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, Jewish, a pantheist (moi) or anything else. Couldn't possibly care less. I just don't want to be hit over the head with a Bible -- or any other religious book. For that matter, any book at all!
I completely agree about looking at the actions of individuals, which is precisely why I made the point earlier about evaluating everyone/everything in government separately. That's one reason I'm registered as an Independent. And that's definitely why I oppose declaring a party when registering! Grr.
I've voted for Republicans, Democrats and smaller political party candidates too. I even cast a write-in ballot once. (I lost.) My votes are always based solely on the individual. I wish that were true of everyone but we all know SOME people vote strictly along party lines. That's ridiculous, IMO. It's exactly the kind of thing that helps keep political stereotypes alive and feeds the hate between them.
That said, I willingly admit my beliefs and values most often -- but not always -- agree with a liberal point of view. That's just the way I roll. :)
Ok, I can handle that. Maybe I misread the point you were trying to get across earlier. I apologize. I couldn't agree more with your last post.
I get a little bent when it appears to me that somebody is completely blinded to the ridiculous partisanship that is springing up on both sides.
I don't think that there is anything at all wrong with agreeing with a Liberal point of view on most issues. Although I find myself disagreeing when it comes to government intervention into people's private or business lives.
The whole labeling each other communist, racist, fascist, stupid, etc., is getting us nowhere.
As far as corruption goes, I don't believe that government or big business is leading the race. In my opinion they are equally corrupt. The difference to me is that government is larger and has the power of coercion. Legislation should be designed to protect and promote small business. Both parties push regulation that stifles small business and favors large. They just support different corporate interests.
The whole Republican/Democrat debate is like identical twins arguing about which one is the ugliest.
ugh.. I refuse to watch Ann Coulter. I'll take a pass on that one.
She makes my skin crawl.
You're probably right about the laughs though. I'm sure Republicans will scramble to try to defend every comment that she's ever vomited out. I may swing by there to take a few swipes... might be fun.
Ralph,
Thanks so much for sniping at me on someone else's HUB this morning. It's just what I would expect from a liberal. I see you served on that bastion of liberalism the NLRB which was in the AFL-CIO's pocket on a consistant basis. Thanks to the NLRB most of our manufacturing base now resides in China.
I realize your HUB is about Glenn Beck but you made me the subject in your comment in the other persons HUB that was not about me.
Just curious Ralph, would you consider Card-Check a needed labor law reform?
I live in a right to work state so I'm fairly ignorant as to how unions and businesses actually work together elsewhere. I'd be interested in a Hub on what's really going on. The political right paints the Unions as absolute evil and the political left paints the corporations as absolute evil. I imagine its somewhere in between the two and I don't have the background to filter the BS. It's rare that you hear anybody speak about it without a severely biased opinion.
I know this is a hub about Glenn Beck so I wont spend any more time on it.
I'd buy it. I'm sure that there are very positive things the UAW did as well as negative. With the polarized nature of politics today, it's virtually impossible to wade through the politicians to find somebody without an agenda when looking for information.
Sara Tonyn: You said: "I don't think THE FACTS you listed are quite as cut and dried as you presented, but it's not worth nitpicking the differences. That said, sure, I'm concerned about those things. People on BOTH sides are. All I ask is that discussions about those issues not be presented in such a way as to make it seem as if only liberals are to blame for them."
But there you go- along with most every other member of the left in this hard discussion, you exclaim that I am pushing the idea that "you liberals" (your obvious interpretation of my tone) are all the bad guys, that I am claiming you are all to blame, you are all blind, and you are all missing the point, that is- my OPINION of the point. But the truth is that YOU are all doing the same thing to us "CONSERVATIVES", you are painting the same picture of US.
I have already mentioned that I am tired of the NAME CALLING, and the POINTED FINGERS, because we are DOOMED if we do NOT STOP AND FIGURE OUT A SOLUTION.
You also said that my "FACTS" are not as cut and dry as I made them out to be but that comment is totally UNSUBSTANTIATED. The facts I listed, all 4, are very hard facts, and they are PROVEN, and they are DOCUMENTED. So how do you suppose they are not as cut and dry? HOW SO?? What part of those 4 facts is LACKING?? And where is your PROOF? You claimed they are not so cut and dry but said NOTHING to support that claim, so why would I pay the slightest bit of attention?
Sara Tonyn:
You said: "The deficit/debt issues started long before Obama took office yet that FACT seems to be totally ignored or minimized. Getting out of the mess the country is in is going to cost money; lots and lots of it. There's no way around it. But screaming and yelling about it in a manner that makes everything seem hopeless and dangerous -- which is exactly what Beck and Limbaugh do for ratings purposes -- only makes it more difficult for the country to work TOGETHER to solve the problems."
First- you are right, the county's deficit issues started long ago. BUT- you are ignoring the point- to date The Obama Administration has SPENT over $1.75 TRILLION!!! He has not even been in office ONE YEAR!! And that is the amount that he has ADDED to that deficit!! And you are WRONG, about SPENDING LOTS OF MONEY to fix our deficit! THINK about it- and let's use the word DEBT, NATIONAL DEBT, because you are obviously getting the word DEFICIT confused with something else. You do not SPEND LOTS OF MONEY, to pay off DEBT. You CONSERVE your spending, and use your PROFITS to pay OFF the debt. Going off in 100 different directions and SPENDING money for everything you can think of, is NOT THE ANSWER, and our DEBT has actually INCREASED because of Obama's spending, not DECREASED. Your idea would only hold water if our national debt has been decreasing with all the spending you are talking about. BUT since our national debt has INCREASED by $1.75 TRILLION, (The amount Obama has spent to date, ASIDE from anything Bush spent in his term,)then your comment is ridiculous and full of HOT AIR. Are you really interested in solving our nation's problems, or are you too fixated on "BASHING" the "CONSERVATIVES" every opinion?????????
Liberal jibberish. Full of ideas but have no real answers to problems. Sounds like our President on prime-time. Here is what I want, don't ask me how it will work or who will pay for it?
And now Glenn Beck has problems with math. Official estimates for his 9-12 march were up to about 75,000, a rather impressive turnout, but Beck claims 1.7 million. Where did they sleep? Where did the park? were there increased numbers on mass transit? No, there were not. Did they suddenly just materialize inside of Washington without leaving any trace of how they got there, where they ate and where they slept? No reports of such massive crowds reflected in hotel/motel counts, restaurants, business, etc., and neither did the pictures used depict the real crowd, because someone faked the huge crowd photo used on some blogs.
It turned out to be a doctored phot, at least 8 years old since newer buildings built in the background were missing, and only the people up front were real 9-12 marchers.
A respectable turnout, indeed, but why inflate the numbers to 1.7 million when it can so easily be determined that this was false?
I see Fox & Friends said 500,000, but even that can't be substantiated by any credible source.
I'm afraid 75,000 will be highest official count.
Mr. Beck, why weren't you even there? It was, after all, your march??????
There is no official count. The Park Service stopped that in 1996.
Your 75k number is no more supportable than a 1.7 mil number. Wanting your number to be the official count doesn't make it so. Just like wanting it to be 1.7 mil doesn't make it so.
The only numbers that really matter are the ones counted in 2010 anyway.
I do not care what the count was, but I would definitely not want to be there. Let me put it this way, you could not pay me a million dollars to hang out with that crowd.
Derrick --
Take a few deep breaths and relax; you seem kinda jacked up and a bit over-emotional. Maybe I'm misreading the tone of your posts. If so, I apologize.
The point is I'm not looking to make things personal so please don't blow a brain rod on my account, 'k? I'm not 'fixated' on bashing every conservative opinion, nor am I full of hot air. And I know the difference between debt and deficit. Thanks for your concern though. Take care.
Beck it seems is in need of a solid math course, starting with addition, not multiplication. Reports over here in Spain say Washington officials recorded about 100,000 total. Were the Washington officials lying?
If the Washington park service stopped counting in 1996, then why have they made counts since then? Or was that some other agency, such as the police or fire department? Someone reported these numbers.
And I read where Beck recently misunderstood the Constitution, where it said that slaves brought across state lines were to be treated as imports, and applied that to illegal immigrants! Is there no end to this fools' idiocracy?
Is this the "good old days" that Beck and his supporters want to bring you to? Does he REALLY think that clauses no longer in the Constitution because of the abolition of slavery have ANY part in your American lives today?
If there were a God, He'd send Beck to live in some remote tent in Antarctica!
Behold at your Beck and call,
a radio version of Jim Jones,
spewing poison kool-aid for the soul,
as thousands of his disenfranchised stooges
swallow it, many who are Southerners
all sucking it down in grand old Dixie cups,
then laying around complaining
about the pain of losing their party.
He packages crackers
spread thick with lies,
on buses paid for by
health insurance lobbyists.
calling them true patriots,
as they become walking billboards
that denounce all that our chosen
elected government is trying to accomplish.
They ooze the infected
pus of Beck's hate,
unable to accept that
they are now a minority,
of lesser stature then
the Mexicans and Blacks
they once thought were
the major problems in this country.
There were a lot of
empty trailer parks on 9/12
folks escaping their
tin can prisons to place blame,
for all of their woes
on a leader who has only had
9 months to correct 8 years
of nothing but catering to
big business interests.
Many of the signs they raised
pointed to a rather obvious
collection of neo nazi's,
skinheads, and Klueless Klutzy Klan,
all enjoying the rights of free speech
in it's most skewed forms.
Yes, there were also some
concerned citizen's there,
exercising their legs and their
rights to free speech,
but they suffered
from guilt by association
with the radical, racists
who also sought this Beck venue.
standing shoulder to shoulder with raving
revolutionarys who held signs that said,
Pray for Obama's Doom,
signs portraying him butt screwing another,
signs stating Obama's grandmother's in hell.
signs calling him fag, and a long legged mack daddy,
all mixed in heavily with a rather healthy dose
of their most racist rebel flag.
Let's not forget the good
Christian folks as well
who were quite ready and willing
to tell any Mexican baby or child,
born in the U.S. by illegal immigrants
to simply go pound some salt...
if they were in dire need of health care.
And who stood next to people holding
signs that compared Our innocent leader
to crimes of mass murder much
like Hitler perpetuated,
and signs that claimed God hated Obama,
and others that touted him as the Anti-christ.
Jesus Wept on 9/12
for their callous hypocritical attitudes.
and for the fact that they were following
a false prophet, Beck-oning them to not love this particuliar brother, but too persecute him.
Take a good long listen to him folks,
Becks tongue is forked and
he holds many at the crossroads,
cajoling them to take the wrong direction
so that in some small way his party can win
even though they lost the big picture last November...
and are in danger of losing any chance to rule again
as whiners, grumblers and anti-government to the point
of exasperation beyond anything
the rest of America can stand.
Beck seems to have incurred the wrath of even some thinking Republican politicians, who do not like his spin on things. seems he is making a bad name for them all, and someone finally recognized that he does not sit well with Moderates.
And now it seems the tea-baggers are going after fellow Republicans! How ridiculous that they attack Lindsay Graham for being too liberal!
These guys remind me of the French revolution, eating their own.
Maybe Beck is a closet-liberal. It's like he's the best thing for democrats. He makes conservatives and libertarians look like idiots. Not to say they are... but, Glenn does a wonderful job of painting a darker image of that movement.
I watch most episodes, so I can understand the other side. It's funny how he actually attacks the principles of Marxism like helping the poor and middle-class. His arguments always hinge on sensationalist, subliminal, red-herring tactics that overpower the emotions rather than logic.
Thanks for this awesome, and funny, hub!

Actually what the conservatives would like to do is to help the poor and middle class get out of their situation and not perpetuate the problem Dan. Maybe if you can point out an example where Marxism actually works or has been successful I might be able to agree with you. Capitalism has been the driving force for freedom and prosperity around the globe. Take a look at China Dan. They are becoming more capitalist each and every day.
Ralph, I have learned more "true" history from watching Beck than I ever did in school. He has constantly asked the White House to point out a lie he spews, the only thing they do in response is to deamonize him.
Why not talk about all the lies our President tells. Who can make up numbers better than him.
It took you long enough to follow me; ha! H
Ralph, How does Juan Williams fell about this now? He is now telling what NPR has allowed, and they fire him for his feelings not his opinion.
Most Lib's do lie about disagreeing with Williams. They feel the sam way when they get on a plane. If you don't, you have a problem. Maybe you've never faced prejudice, I have. I've been bloodied, and returned the favor. I've been beaten by a crowd, shot at, shot at with bow and arrow and have been attempted to be run over. I know hate!
Beck and the Tea Party do not advocate hate, but they receive it. Many of the comments you list on Beck are crap. Sure, he's a murderer, a lib attack.
I've listened to his stories, and check them out. Surprise, he's quite accurate. Why do you Lib's want to take away what people have earned, they will be at your door also. You know the story, first they came for the Jews, then they ............. That's your utopia.
Obama doesn't lie? Sure the stimulus is working, there are no new taxes in health care, I'll close Gitmo, and so much more. He is so far over his head, and he doesn't listen to anyone. He does know how to campaign, but if you listen to him closely, it's crap. H
Funny pictures and great videos! I can tell you and I think alike. I'm brand new here, but I hope I can make hubs as great as yours someday.
Ralph, This again! Congrat's on all the comments you received, but you seem to have lost many Liberal's. I wonder why! H

"Deep-seated hatred" for the grandmother who raised him? The mother who bore him? The schools and teachers that nurtured him? The friends who helped him in his earlier careers, and who worked their butts off to elevate him to the Presidency?
A pathetic lie.
